The film “Boston Strangler” narrates the probe into a series of female murders occurring in the 1960s Boston region. It is presented through the eyes of the journalists who uncovered the mystery and eventually identified the killer to the Boston Police Department, battling sexism throughout their investigation.

In the real world, Knightley and Coon portray Loretta McLaughlin and Jean Cole, the diligent reporters who handled the investigation in 1962.
Additionally, the movie delves into the personal lives of the journalists, revealing how the ongoing investigation strained Loretta’s marriage, all while highlighting the bond between her and Jean.
In 2023, I was one of the viewers who found myself caught up in the gripping narrative of “Boston Strangler.” However, upon its release, it garnered a somewhat divided response from critics, with a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as we speak.
Prior to its debut, The Hollywood Reporter described the noir-infused thriller as an engaging true crime tale and commended Emily Blunt (Knightley) and Lakeith Stanfield (Coon) for their compelling performances as relentless investigative journalists.
The film features Morgan Spector from “The Gilded Age” playing Loretta’s spouse James, Alessandro Nivola taking on the role of Detective Conley, David Dastmalchian portraying the main suspect Albert DeSalvo, and Luke Kirby as criminal lawyer F Lee Bailey.
