This movie, titled “The Amateur“, derives its storyline from Robert Littell’s novel. It stars Laurence Fishburne, who you might recognize from “The Matrix“, Rachel Brosnahan, best known for her role as “Superman‘s companion”, and Caitríona Balfe, a familiar face from “Outlander“.

The film is frequently likened to “Slow Horses”, as evidenced by Digital Spy’s four-star review, which describes it as both engaging and satisfying, promising to fulfill the cravings of viewers who appreciate the Apple TV+ series.

For fans seeking a traditional, skillfully written spy novel, “The Amateur” certainly excels in its genre.

The movie’s Rotten Tomatoes rating is 61%, based on 181 critic reviews, but audiences have given it a higher rating of 88%.

In an interview with Digital Spy earlier this year, Balfe shared her experience of collaborating with Malek for the first time professionally, despite having been acquainted with him socially for approximately ten years prior.

She remarked that he’s an exceptional actor, possessing a deep vulnerability and strong stage presence. Interacting with him feels like he’s truly immersed in the moment. It was delightful to discover subtle details that added depth to their on-screen relationship, even though their shared past was mostly implied.

The Amateur is available to stream now on Disney+.

The latest print issue from Digital Spy is available! You can purchase “Oasis – Live in ’25” at your local newsstands or online, with the price tag set at an affordable £8.99.
