We just got our first look at the Gen 10 Pokémon starters.
Pokémon has officially revealed the first Pokémon for the next generation of games! During a recent Pokémon Presents celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, the company showcased Pokémon Winds and Waves and gave fans a first look at the three starter Pokémon that will appear in the games.
So, let’s dive in deeper and break down the new Pokémon Gen 10 starters.
Pokémon Winds & Waves starters; Who will you choose?
Pokémon games are well-known for letting players begin their journey with a starter Pokémon. You always get to pick one of three: a Water-type, a Grass-type, and a Fire-type – giving you a variety of choices right from the start.
These Pokémon each have special evolutions, providing players with a strong team member from the beginning of the game. Previous games have featured starters like Charmander, Totodile, and Chikorita, and Pokémon Winds and Waves will continue this tradition. We’ve now gotten our first look at the game’s three starter Pokémon: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua.
Browt
The newest Pokémon game (Generation 10) introduces Browt, a small, green bird Pokémon as the grass-type starter. It resembles Chikorita, but is a little rounder. Although it’s not my personal favorite of the three starters, we have no idea what Browt will evolve into by the final stage of the game.
I mean, if a Magikarp can turn into a Gyarados, then I would say anything is possible.
Pombon
Pombon, the fire-type starter from Generation 10, is undeniably adorable, looking a lot like a Pomeranian. But often, cute Pokémon end up with surprisingly powerful and intimidating evolutions. It makes me wonder: will Pombon’s final form still look like a dog, or will it evolve into something more like a wolf?
Pokémon is well-known for designing its fire-type starter Pokémon to be particularly popular and impressive. I anticipate that Pombon’s evolved form will continue this trend.
Gecqua
I really like Gecqua, the Water-type starter Pokémon from the tenth generation. Even though we haven’t seen its final evolved form yet, it reminds me of Froakie and Mudkip – both of which have incredibly strong and well-designed final evolutions.
So, Pokémon Winds and Waves isn’t out for ages yet – at least a year, probably more! But I’m already thinking about the starter Pokémon. Based on what we’ve seen so far, which one are you guys planning to pick?
