The British version of Julia Garner’s “The Royal Hotel” has recently made its debut on Netflix UK, quickly climbing the popular viewing list.
In the new thriller, actress Jessica Henwick from “Glass Onion” joins forces once again with director Kitty Green, who collaborated with Julia Garner in the highly praised film “The Assistant,” which was launched in 2020.
Drawing inspiration from Pete Gleeson’s 2016 documentary, “Hotel Coolgardie”, the movie titled “The Royal Hotel” features Garner and Henwick playing the roles of Hanna and Liv, a pair of adventurous American travelers traversing Australia.

The movie titled “The Royal Hotel” was jointly penned by Green and Oscar Redding. It features Hugo Weaving portraying Billy, the owner of a pub; Ursula Yovich as Billy’s spouse Carol; and Toby Wallace playing the role of Matty, one of its patrons.
As of now, the movie recently added to Netflix UK last Friday, currently ranks seventh among the top films streaming there.
Green’s standout quality has been given a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an impressive 89% approval rating from 150 critic reviews. The Los Angeles Times commended it for its nail-biting tension and intelligence, while The Spokesman appreciated the second partnership between Garner and the director.
In simpler terms, the joint effort of Garner and Green is powerful, and “The Royal Hotel” serves as a strong criticism against the casual acceptance of workplace misogyny that we often encounter. (This version aims to preserve the original meaning while making it more accessible to a wider audience.)
In the past, the main character from the show “Ozark” had a role in the director Green’s initial feature film, titled “The Assistant,” which is a tense drama set within a confined office environment. In this movie, she portrayed Jane, a young employee who worked for a cunning Hollywood executive.
