A deluxe coffee table book about the second season of House of the Dragon is coming
As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for the intricate world of Westeros, I must say that the release of these behind-the-scenes books on House of the Dragon has been akin to finding treasure in the crypts beneath Winterfell. The unique access provided by Gina McIntyre and Insight Editions offers an intimate look at the making of this captivating series, which is as fascinating as the show itself.
In the aftermath of the final episode of House of the Dragon‘s first season last year, Insight Editions published a book titled Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon: Unveiling the Genesis of a Targaryen Dynasty. This book was packed with exclusive insights into the production of HBO’s prequel series to Game of Thrones, featuring a wealth of behind-the-scenes photos, sketches, and interviews with both cast and crew. Author Gina McIntyre had been granted extensive access to the set while filming was underway, allowing her to compile this comprehensive account.
After the second season of the series wrapped up in August, McIntyre and Insight Editions have returned with a fresh book titled “Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon [Season 2]: Behind the Dawn of the Targaryen Civil War“. Similar to before, McIntyre was granted exclusive behind-the-scenes access at Leavesden Studios in England. The book promises “exclusive revelations,” “detailed discussions with showrunner Ryan Condal and a stellar cast and team,” and “a wealth of unseen images, featuring concept designs for the series’ dragons, locations, and costumes, as well as candid on-set snapshots.
Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon [Season 2]: Unveiling the Targaryen Civil War’s Dawn
It’s possible that McIntyre and Insight Editions could collaborate again on a book focusing on the third season of House of the Dragon, which Condal and his crew are currently developing. Since new episodes likely won’t air until 2026, HBO is preparing another Game of Thrones prequel series titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for release in 2025. This series will take place decades after House of the Dragon but before Game of Thrones, helping to fill the gap. We might also receive a behind-the-scenes book about this new show at some point.
