A Court of Thorns and Roses might still happen thanks to Margot Robbie
As a gamer with a heart for books and a soft spot for fantasy series, I’ve been eagerly following the A Court of Thorns and Roses saga since its inception. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, much like the games I play, filled with high hopes, unexpected twists, and moments of despair.
As a devoted fan of the enchanting “A Court of Thorns and Roses” book series penned by the brilliant Sarah J. Maas, I’ve been swept away in its magical world for years. Recently, the novels have gained even more traction thanks to #BookTok, as Harper’s Bazaar has noted. Back in March 2021, we were thrilled to learn that Hulu was set to adapt this captivating series. Needless to say, our anticipation soared! However, since then, the production seems to have encountered a few obstacles. At the moment, its future remains uncertain.
Initially, Ronald D. Moore, the mastermind behind “Outlander,” agreed to transform the story into a series. After a long period of anticipation, Moore updated fans in November 2023, revealing that progress was being made on the show and that some scripts had already been penned. However, production came to a halt due to writers’ and actors’ strikes which started that summer.
In July 2024, Moore confided to Entertainment Weekly that he is no longer involved with the project. The precise timing of his departure remains unknown, but at the time, the project was still in development. However, he is now unsure about its current status. Since then, there have been no official updates from Maas or Hulu. Nonetheless, there may be a glimmer of possibility for ACOTAR.
Notable actress Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie, was seen having coffee with an author, sparking speculation among fans about potential collaboration on the long-awaited adaptation. Fortunately, Harper’s Bazaar posed questions about her possible role in the project back in September 2024. Robbie hinted at her interest by saying “I’ll see what I can do” regarding the production of a Court of Thorns and Roses television series or film. Interestingly, it was revealed that Robbie is an avid reader of the books!
The star has read all of Maas’ books multiple times. So she’s definitely an expert and fan, for sure. It’s cool that she and the writer have also become friends now. Robbie also has her own production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. So when she says “I’ll see what I can do,” there’s definitely something she herself can do. Which would be amazing!
The actress has shined for so many years, but most recently exploded for her role as Barbie in the hit movie. And one of the reasons the film has been such a draw is because of its female-centric narrative. And that’s exactly what ACOTAR is all about. It definitely fits the bill of what Robbie usually attaches her name to.
The narrative revolves around Feyre, a human huntress, who finds herself transported into a mystical domain inhabited by Tamlin, the faerie lord. Their relationship starts off on rocky grounds, but they eventually develop feelings for each other amidst their initial disdain. However, an age-old curse looms over both realms, and their love is put to the test as they struggle against it. In essence, this tale offers a blend of romance and enemies-to-lovers narrative; it’s exactly what I’m craving for in an onscreen adaptation!
Oh, I’ve got to say, it’s been a dream of mine that this fantastic book series, “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, is being secretly brought to life by the actress! It would be simply amazing knowing it’s in capable hands. Plus, who knows? Maybe she’ll make an appearance or even take on one of the characters herself. The suspense surrounding this project has gone on long enough. I’m eager for some news about where production stands, and if Robbie’s involved, you can bet I’ll be there with bated breath!
