A controversial Jenna Ortega thriller is being removed by Prime Video next month
As a passionate viewer, I wanted to share that “Miller’s Girl,” the gripping thriller featuring Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman, will no longer be available on Prime Video come next month.
In the movie, Ortega plays Cairo Sweet, a youthful dreamer longing to be a writer. Kick-starting her creative journey, she enrolls in a summer writing course led by author Jonathan Miller (Freeman), and before long, their connection evolves into an intricate relationship.
In a world where boundaries fade and destinies entwine, a mentor and apprentice are faced with the challenge of grappling with their deepest secrets as they strive to safeguard their unique life goals and cherished possessions.

Under the guidance of director Jade Halley Bartlett, the intriguing erotic thriller titled “Miller’s Girl” can now be streamed in the UK on Prime Video. However, fans should act quickly as the movie is set to be taken down from the platform on August 11th.
Upon its premiere, the movie sparked debate due to the significant age difference (31 years) between its main actors, leading some to question the authenticity of their on-screen characters’ relationship. Later, Freeman defended the film’s portrayal of mature and complex themes, describing it as “mature and subtly layered”.
As a gamer, I must admit that I was pretty excited for the release of this erotic thriller in 2024. However, after reading numerous reviews from critics, it seems like I might have to hold off on my excitement. The film has an approval rating of just 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 66 reviews. Critics described the movie as “superficial” and “hollow”. Guess I’ll have to wait for a more promising flick to catch my attention.
As a viewer moves from one scene to another, it can be challenging to determine if the movie is just plain dumb, a deliberately funny example of low-brow camp, or a cunning disguise for sophisticated self-mockery, as suggested by Inside Hook.
The sentiment was shared by the Los Angeles Times, who stated: “This is accidental camp at its best, hitting that hilariously bad-yet-enjoyable note strongly. While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Miller’s Girl, I find myself compelled to highly recommend it as well.
The film titled ‘Miller’s Girl‘ tells a story where the stylishly executed transgressions fall short due to being overly predictable. Although it’s clear that the writer has a proficient understanding of narrative structure, they seem to lack the ability to imbue it with fresh, innovative ideas,” commented Variety.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but share the enthusiastic responses this masterpiece has received. With The Messenger labeling it as a “thrilling, brooding, scholarly, and undeniably sensual tale”, and Film Inquiry showering it with praise for being “vibrant” and “powerfully evocative”, I find myself in agreement with these glowing reviews.
Miller’s Girl is streaming on Prime Video until 11 August.
