French crime thriller The Night of the 12th is now streaming for free in the UK.
The 2022 movie titled “La Nuit du 12” can now be watched on Channel 4, following its television premiere last night.
The movie is centered around a made-up event inspired by a true incident, delving into the topic of misogynistic brutality, and highlighting how the reasons and specifics of killings often don’t fit neatly into the tidy narratives portrayed on screen and in literature.
Even if many British viewers might not recognize the actors in the cast, this production is still worth watching for those who love the genre, given the positive reviews it has received.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a super-high score of 94% positive from 67 critic reviews.

The Guardian noted that this film carries a haunting, unsettling quality similar to Bong Joon-ho’s renowned Korean work, “Memories of Murder”. It delves into the profoundness of not knowing, of unsolved mysteries, and the absence of the traditional resolutions found in narratives. Essentially, it questions the existence of definitive truths and a clear-cut ending that every movie, TV series, or novel seems to promise.
The Irish Times described it as a captivating crime drama reminiscent of movies like the Hughes brothers’ “From Hell” or David Fincher’s “Zodiac”, while Vulture commented that the movie is relentless in its ability to send shivers down your back.

The newspaper, “The Australian,” referred to the event on the 12th as a “troubling police investigation drama.” Meanwhile, “Empire” noted that the movie left an impression in the mind of viewers that is rare for crime narratives.
Additionally, Channel 4 has introduced the dystopian Belgian-Dutch show “Arcadia”, the spy thriller series featuring Elisabeth Moss titled “The Veil”, and the historical drama “Suffragette”.
On the flipside, you’ve only got until Friday to watch the film Free Fire on the service.
The Night of the 12th is available to stream now on Channel 4.
The latest print edition of Digital Spy, featuring Oasis – Live in ’25, is now available! You can purchase it at your local newsstands or online for only £8.99.
