A remake of a classic thriller has just been added to Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
Martin Scorsese’s 1991 film “Cape Fear” can be watched online today, featuring an impressive ensemble of actors such as Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Joe Don Baker, and Juliette Lewis.
In addition to Gregory Peck making his last screen appearance, the movie also stars Martin Balsam. Both actors previously worked together in the 1962 adaptation of the film, which itself was inspired by John D MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners,” published in 1957.

In Scorsese’s movie, “Cape Fear,” we follow the story of Max Cady, a notorious rapist who has been released from prison. This character, played by Robert De Niro, seeks retribution against Sam Bowden, the attorney who previously represented him in court. (Nolte portrays Sam Bowden in this film.)
Cady claims that Bowden intentionally employed incorrect strategies to ensure a 14-year conviction and imprisonment.
In response, Bowden was so shocked and disturbed by Cady’s sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl, he chose to conceal certain pieces of evidence, potentially allowing for a more lenient sentence for the accused.
The movie received two Oscar nominations, one for Best Actor (De Niro) and another for Best Supporting Actress (Lewis), as they played the roles of Bowden’s teenage daughter Danielle in it.

Approximately thirty-plus years since its initial release in theaters, the film “Cape Fear” continues to receive positive reviews, boasting an impressive 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 50 critic assessments.
In their respective reviews, The Washington Post labeled the thriller as both “harsh” and “sinister,” while Empire found the performances to be genuinely unsettling. Just gaze at De Niro’s ominous visage on the poster, and you’ll grasp the extent of the creepiness involved.
Cape Fear is available to stream on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that you can either rent or buy the classic 1962 film from various digital vendors such as Amazon Video and Apple TV.
