This week has some great new shows starting, and we’ve picked out five of the best for you. There’s something for everyone – including a suspenseful crime thriller and the conclusion to a popular reality competition.
If you prefer your mystery shows to be less intense, a new, comforting crime drama starring John Hannah is coming to Channel 5.
There’s also an acclaimed BBC drama about a real-life tragedy that will be launching on Netflix.

Furious
The new crime drama features Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black, tracking a clever and dangerous female serial killer named Lola Petticrew. It’s a suspenseful story that’s sure to send shivers down your spine.
As each person pursues their individual idea of justice, their lives unexpectedly connect, making it harder to distinguish between what’s right and wrong.

The Rapture
This BBC psychological thriller is inspired by Liz Jensen’s novel and centers around Gabs Fox, a forensic psychologist, and her encounter with a teenage patient in a psychiatric hospital.
The story centers around Bethany, who was found guilty of her mother’s murder, but insists she didn’t do it. She has a difficult relationship with her father, Leonard, a popular and persuasive leader of a religious group. Bethany confides in Gabs that she has psychic abilities and can see the future, leaving Gabs to question if her claims are true. The central mystery is: if Bethany is innocent, who really killed her mother?
Ruth Madeley stars in The Rapture, with India Amarteifio, Sam Hazeldine, Iwan Rheon, Ruth Jones, and Jack Farthing also featuring in the cast.
The Rapture premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday at 9pm.
Love Island live final
Okay, so this season’s finale is hitting us this Monday! I’m seriously on the edge of my seat trying to figure out which couple is actually going to win. It’s been a wild ride and I need to know who takes home the prize!
After almost two months, only six couples remain on the show, and now it’s up to the viewers to decide who will win.
Expect plenty of drama as the season enters its final episode.
The Love Island final airs on ITV2 on Monday evening from 9pm.
Benidorm is Murder
Cozy crime shows are incredibly popular right now, with shows like Death in Paradise leading the way. Channel 5 is adding to the trend with a new series starring John Hannah as Dennis Crown, a retired detective who moves to Benidorm seeking a quieter life. But his retirement is short-lived when murders begin to occur, and he’s pulled back into detective work, encouraged by Rosa (Carolina Bécquer), a barmaid who loves crime dramas.
The show features Dennis, who brings practical experience, and Rosa, a TV expert, as they investigate a different murder each episode while also navigating their relationships with the Spanish police.
Ian Jarvis, who worked on Death in Paradise, created Benidorm is Murder. The show includes appearances by well-known actors like Tamzin Outhwaite, Denise Welch, and Alistair McGowan.
Benidorm is Murder premieres on 5 on 30 July.
The Bombing of Pan Am 103
The documentary series The Bombing of Pan Am 103, which first aired on BBC One last summer, is now available on Netflix. It recounts the true story of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and the investigations that followed by authorities in Britain and the United States.
On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 exploded above Lockerbie, Scotland, tragically killing all 270 people on board. The explosion sparked an enormous investigation – the largest murder case in Scottish police history – and remains the deadliest terrorist attack ever to occur in Britain.
The show, which stars Connor Swindells, Patrick J Adams, Tony Curran, Peter Mullan and Phyllis Logan, was well-received by critics at the time, The Times calling it “a sober and respectful telling of an extremely complex atrocity”.
The Bombing of Pan Am 103 streams on Netflix from 30 July.
