The film revolves around the character Mel Blight (Miller), who finds himself mentored by two influential figures: Mark Shepard (Jarvis), a notoriously hated criminal in Australia, and Warren Murfett (Pearce), an individual about to be released from prison.

As a father-son relationship develops between them, it becomes apparent that deep within the most wretched individuals lies a kernel of kindness that ultimately brings about their downfall. This is further emphasized in the plot summary.

The film “Inside” garnered significant praise from critics and boasted a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In its four-star review, “The Guardian” described it as “compelling”.

Although it can be hard to bear, it doesn’t constantly overwhelm us with sadness and ethical decay; there’s always some room for optimism to peek through.

In their review, IndieWire praised Pearce for giving another outstanding supporting performance, while The Hollywood Reporter commented that the film offers insightful observations on topics such as mental health, inherited trauma, self-empowerment, and flawed or irrepairable father figures, ultimately proving to be worthwhile.

The movie was crafted by both writer and director Charles Williams, presenting a deep investigation into the Australian penal system. It delves into the complexities of how individuals can transition from being victims to becoming offenders, and vice versa, while questioning if there’s any possibility for either group to break free from their circumstances.

Inside will be released on digital, Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on 11 August.
