A grand-scale escapade starring the ensemble from Ghosts has secured a fresh platform on streaming services within the United Kingdom.
You can now stream the 2015 movie “Bill” on BBC iPlayer, following its television broadcast yesterday. Additionally, it’s accessible on Amazon Prime Video as well.
After wrapping up “Horrible Histories” and during a break from “Yonderland,” the talented Them There troupe consisting of Mathew Baynton, Ben Willbond, Laurence Rickard, Jim Howick, Martha Howe-Douglas, and Simon Farnaby embarked on another popular British figure: William Shakespeare.
During his ‘wayward phase’, Bill accompanies the future playwright on his journey where he experiments with various activities such as playing the harp or modern dancing, all in pursuit of recognition and wealth.
On his journey toward achievement, he encounters ruthless monarchs, a forlorn romance, and potentially becomes embroiled in a scheme to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I.

It’s hardly surprising, considering the caliber of the talents behind it, that the movie garnered rave reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a high approval rating of 90%, based on mostly positive reviews.
In the publication The Observer, Mark Kermode stated: “Striking a harmonious blend of clever historical jokes and wide-reaching physical comedy, the movie Bill delights crowds and appeals to both younger and older viewers.

According to Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian, this feature is a playful, albeit somewhat predictable, take on Shakespeare’s early life, reminiscent of pantomime. It shows traces of comedies like the Carry On series, Blackadder, and notably Python, with a joke that seems to be a direct tribute to Monty Python’s Holy Grail.
“You will chuckle a lot,” wrote WhatCulture, while Total Film called it “daft” and “affectionate”.
In the United Kingdom, the original run of “Ghosts” concluded after its fifth season, which was a decision made by its creators. Versions of this show have also been produced in America, France, and Germany, and upcoming adaptations are planned for Australia and Greece.
Bill is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer and Prime Video.
