No matter how you’re spending the bank holiday, we’ve got some great TV shows to recommend! From a new horror series on Netflix to critically acclaimed dramas, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
So read on if you’re on the hunt for something to watch this bank holiday weekend.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen
The series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is a horror story about a woman getting married. It follows a couple leading up to their wedding day, and as the title suggests, things don’t end well.
We gave the series four stars, calling it a truly captivating show and a great addition to its genre, especially highlighting the fantastic finale. If you enjoy spooky, symbolic stories with a lot going on beneath the surface, it’s definitely worth watching.
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is streaming now on Netflix.

Big Mood
I’m so excited for season two of Big Mood! If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s the time to jump in. It first came out on Channel 4 in 2024 and everyone immediately loved it. It stars Nicola Coughlan – you probably know her from Derry Girls and Bridgerton – and Lydia West, who was amazing in It’s a Sin and Years and Years. Seriously, it’s brilliant!
What to Read Next
Camilla Whitehill wrote and created this six-part series, which has been called a lively and unconventional look at female friendship, and how it’s affected when someone deals with a serious mental health condition.
Big Mood season 1 is available now on Channel 4, with season 2 coming soon.

A Woman of Substance
A new adaptation of Barbara Taylor Bradford’s beloved novel is coming to Channel 4, over four decades after the popular 1985 version starring Jenny Seagrove. This time, Brenda Blethyn, known for her role in Vera, will play Emma Harte, while Jessica Reynolds (House of Guinness) portrays her younger self.
The new series, A Woman of Substance, has been popular with viewers since its debut, with each new episode released weekly. The show stars Emmett J Scanlan (known for Kin and MobLand), Lenny Rush (Doctor Who), Will Mellor (Mr Bates vs. The Post Office), and Jo Joyner (from Harlan Coben’s Stay Close).
A Woman of Substance is available as a boxset on Channel 4.

LOL: Last One Laughing
The first season of Last One Laughing—a show where comedians try to make each other laugh—was a big success for Prime Video when it was released last year.
The show is back for a second season with a fresh group of hilarious comedians, including Alan Carr from Celebrity Traitors and the returning Bob Mortimer. If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s the perfect time to start watching!
LOL: Last One Laughing is streaming now on Prime Video.

The Other Bennet Sister
Inspired by Janice Hadlow’s popular novel, The Other Bennet Sister tells the story of Mary, the middle sister from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice who doesn’t usually get much attention. The show came out in March 2026 and has quickly become a hit, appearing in the top 10 most-watched programs on BBC iPlayer.
Ella Bruccoleri, known for her role in Call the Midwife, plays Mary, a character who breaks the mold of traditional period drama heroines. The cast also includes Ruth Jones, famous from Gavin and Stacey, alongside Richard E. Grant (The Thursday Murder Club) and Indira Varma (The Capture).
The Other Bennet Sister is available on BBC iPlayer.

Bait
A new comedy series on Prime Video is getting a lot of buzz, launching with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and excellent reviews. Riz Ahmed, who also created the show, plays Shah Latif, an actor hoping to land the role of James Bond.
The new six-episode series is available now as a complete set, and features a talented cast including comedian Guz Khan (known from Taskmaster), Weruche Opia from I May Destroy You, and Rafe Spall (Under Salt Marsh).
Bait is streaming now on Prime Video.

What It Feels Like for a Girl
We called it “the show of the summer” when it first came out last year, and now What It Feels Like for a Girl is receiving the recognition it deserves with five BAFTA TV nominations, including one for Best Limited Series.
This BBC drama, created by and based on the book by Paris Lees, tells the story of teenager Byron as he figures out who he is. The eight-episode series beautifully mixes moments of happiness and celebration with the challenges of being accepted, all set against the nostalgic backdrop of the 2000s.
What It Feels Like for a Girl is available on BBC iPlayer.

Code of Silence
Rose Ayling-Ellis stars as Alison Brooks, a Deaf woman who helps the police by lip-reading. The acclaimed drama, which we gave a five-star rating when it debuted in May 2025, also features Charlotte Ritchie (known from Ghosts), Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), and Kieron Moore (Masters of the Air).
The drama Code of Silence has been nominated for a BAFTA award, and ITV announced it was the most popular drama of the second quarter of 2025, across all viewing platforms. Due to incredibly positive feedback from viewers, a second season is already being planned.
If all that’s not a sign to catch-up with this one, we don’t know what is.
Code of Silence is available on ITVX.

Film Club
After ten years in development, the romantic comedy Film Club was a collaborative effort between Aimee Lou Wood and her co-star, Ralph Davis (known for SAS Rogue Heroes). The story follows Evie, played by Wood, and Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan), best friends who share a weekly movie night in Evie’s garage. Their routine is disrupted when Noa announces he’s moving, causing Evie to re-evaluate their relationship.
I’m so thrilled for Aimee Lou Wood! She’s getting some serious recognition at the BAFTA TV Awards this year – she’s nominated as a leading actress for her amazing work in Film Club, and also as a supporting actress for season three of The White Lotus. It’s fantastic to see her talent getting the attention it deserves!
Film Club is available on BBC iPlayer.

The Pitt
Man, I’ve been waiting ages for this! That show, The Pitt, which everyone’s been raving about, is finally here in the UK now that HBO Max launched at the end of March. If you haven’t checked it out yet, this bank holiday weekend seems like the perfect time to binge the first season and see what all the fuss is about.
I’m really excited about this show, The Pitt! It stars Noah Wyle, who you probably know from ER, and it’s set in a super busy trauma center in Pittsburgh. What’s cool is each episode takes place during just one hour of a single shift. They’ve already shown two seasons over in the US, and there’s another one coming, which is great news!
The Pitt season one is streaming now on HBO Max in the UK.
Okay, so the new issue of Living Legends magazine just dropped, and it’s completely dedicated to Harry Styles! It’s a huge 100-page, full-color spread, and I just saw you can grab it at any newsstand or order it online. Definitely checking this one out!
