The director of the latest Scream movie, Kevin Williamson, recently shared some unexpected news about the future of the series, which may not please everyone. While the newest film has been a big hit in theaters, leading to talk of a sequel, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Williamson, who created the original Scream and has been heavily involved as a writer, producer, and now director, doesn’t plan to work on a potential Scream 8.
Kevin Williamson, the creator of Scream, recently told the Hello Sidney fan site that he’s looking to focus on other projects and doesn’t plan to write or direct any future Scream movies. While he had previously brainstormed ideas for an eighth film and Neve Campbell shared a promising story direction, Williamson now wants to step back and let someone else lead the franchise.
When asked if working on Scream 7 inspired him to direct more often, Williamson chuckled and said, “Definitely not!” He explained he’s eager to direct a different film he’s already written, but hasn’t had time for yet. He’s currently focused on a couple of TV shows he’s enthusiastic about, and might direct one of those down the line. As for the next Scream movie, he plans to return to a supporting role, enjoying being “part of the family.”

I’m totally happy letting someone else take over, and I’m genuinely excited to see their vision. So yeah, I’m really hoping we get an eighth movie!
This is a developing story…
