Georgie Gardner announces shock departure from Nine after 24-year career with the network

Georgie Gardner is leaving Channel Nine after working there for 24 years.

Gardner shared on Instagram on Friday that she is leaving her job, expressing gratitude for the many opportunities she’s had there and calling her time with the network a ‘great honor’.

She expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities Nine had given her over the past twenty-five years.

It’s been a real honor and incredibly rewarding to have presented news throughout the day, reported for, and hosted almost every news show on the network.

I’m incredibly grateful for all the amazing people I’ve worked with over the years – they truly are the best in the business. It means the world to me knowing that people have watched and supported my work throughout my career, and I’m so humbled by that.

Georgie’s final bulletin will be on Friday, April 17.

Fiona Dear, who leads news and current affairs at Nine, stated that the Sydney presenter was a valued part of the Nine team.

According to Dear’s email, she was able to handle many different jobs at the network – reporting, hosting, and presenting – because she was such a well-rounded journalist.

According to Dear, Georgie became widely recognized after spending nine years as a newsreader and host on the Today Show.

It wasn’t long before Gardner’s post was inundated with well wishers from her Channel Nine co-stars

David Campbell wrote, ‘G! This is huge. I’m going to miss sharing a locker room with you. Congratulations on an amazing career with the club.’

Belinda Russell expressed sadness about the departure but acknowledged it was the right decision, saying there are still many contributions to make and exciting experiences ahead. She’ll miss their regular Friday and Saturday get-togethers.

Natalia Cooper shared a heartfelt message for Georgie, saying she’ll be deeply missed and wishing her the best in her future endeavors. She enjoyed working with Georgie and looks forward to seeing what she accomplishes next.

Tom Steinfort offered a brief tribute, calling Gardner an icon.

Gardner joined Channel Nine in 2002.

She began her career with National Nine News Morning Edition in 2006, taking over from Leila McKinnon. She then spent eight years working on the Today show.

She left her role at Today in 2014 to spend more time with her family.

In 2018, she replaced Lisa Wilkinson as co-host of Today alongside Karl Stefanovic.

She later co-hosted the show with Deborah Knight in 2019.
