The movie was shown on BBC Two last night, and it will be available to watch on iPlayer for a full 11 months – much longer than the usual one month. This extended availability is because the BBC helped fund the film.
Though it had a limited release in theaters, earning just over $500,000 domestically, the film was very well-received by critics.

Both The Atlantic and RogerEbert.com, along with The Los Angeles Times, ranked The Eternal Daughter as one of the best films of 2022. The Atlantic placed it second, while the other two publications listed it at number three.
Over on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 95% positive score from 137 reviews.
According to The Atlantic, The Eternal Daughter beautifully blends a delicate ghost story with a moving portrayal of family relationships. The film transforms the hotel setting into a space filled with lingering sadness and memories. Though it could have been a limited project, the review states it’s actually one of the director’s most complex and ambitious works.

According to a review on RogerEbert.com, The Eternal Daughter is a haunting film, much like traditional gothic ghost stories, that leaves viewers feeling uneasy and questioning what they’ve just seen.
According to the Los Angeles Times, The Eternal Daughter is a deeply moving film, possessing the same captivating quality as both classic ghost stories and great love stories.
