Lord Sear, DJ and hip-hop radio host, dies at 52

Lord Sear, a well-known DJ and radio host specializing in hip-hop, has passed away at the age of 52. He was known for touring with Eminem and contributing to his Shade 45 radio channel.

His death was announced Wednesday on social media. No cause of death was given.

The tribute shared on Sear’s Instagram described him as much more than just a radio personality—he was a powerful influence and a close companion to many. It highlighted his lasting impact on hip hop, noting that he played a key role in developing the culture as a whole.

I was a big fan of Sear – he was truly a key part of the Shade 45 family. He’s been with the station since Eminem first started it back in 2004, so he was there from the very beginning.

Eminem shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Sear was a wonderful person and always made him laugh during their time together on tour. He fondly remembered their interviews on Shade 45, calling them some of his favorites, and said Sear made the world a better place, adding that he will be deeply missed.

Oliver Grant, known as ‘Power’ and a key figure in the success of the Wu-Tang Clan, has passed away after fighting pancreatic cancer, according to the rap group.

Steve Watson, known as Sear, was born on July 7, 1973, and began his career working with rappers like Kurious in the 1990s. He then joined the influential underground hip-hop radio show, “The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show,” which helped launch the careers of artists including Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, and the Fugees.

Besides his radio career, Sear was also a talented rapper, DJ, and music producer. He toured with Eminem as part of the Anger Management Tour in the 2000s, and he even provided voice work for the video games “Grand Theft Auto III” and “Grand Theft Auto IV,” as noted by IMDb.

I was really excited to hear that Lord Sear had his own show, “The Lord Sear Special,” on SiriusXM radio. It was awesome to be able to tune in and hear him on satellite radio!

Jaleel White, along with hip-hop artists Ludacris, Xzibit, E-40, and Fat Joe, were among the many who shared condolences in the comments section of the Instagram post announcing Sear’s passing.

White shared that he’ll always remember Sear whenever he visits the SiriusXM building. He described Sear as having a huge and vibrant spirit.

“Love you Sear. I don’t have the words,” Xzibit wrote. “Rest In Power.”
