Great news for fans! Netflix has confirmed a second season of the popular animated series KPop Demon Hunters. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who directed and wrote the first season, will return for the sequel.
Netflix’s most popular movie ever centers around Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—three friends who secretly live double lives as both members of the K-pop group HUNTR/X and demon hunters. Their world is turned upside down when a competing boyband, the Saja Boys, arrives, presenting their greatest challenge yet.
Okay, so everyone’s loving the music from the movie – seriously, ‘Golden’ is predicted to win Best Original Song at the Oscars this weekend! – and it looks like we’re getting even MORE awesome tracks when the sequel comes out. I’m so hyped!

Netflix announced that the team behind the first movie – Kang and Appelhans – will be writing and directing the sequel. They originally co-wrote the first film with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, based on a story by Kang.
As a huge fan, it’s amazing to hear the director say how proud they are to see people connecting with this Korean story and loving the characters! They’ve hinted at so much more to explore in this world they’ve created, and it sounds like what we’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg – I can’t wait to see what’s next!
What to Read Next
Appelhans described the characters in Kpop Demon Hunters as feeling like family and expressed his enthusiasm for what’s coming next in Rumi, Mira, and Zoey’s story.
We’ve grown to love these characters and their world feels like a second home to us. We’re thrilled to continue their stories, put them through new challenges, and see how they grow. We also want to keep innovating and finding new ways to combine music, animation, and storytelling.
The voice actors for the first movie are Arden Cho as Rumi, May Hong as Mira, and Ji-young Yoo as Zoey. EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami provide the singing voices for the characters.

According to Netflix’s Bela Bajaria, KPop Demon Hunters didn’t just attract viewers—it created a passionate global fanbase that connected people across different languages, ages, and interests.
We’re thrilled to be working with them even more closely, and alongside our friends at Sony Pictures Animation, we’re excited to create a world of stories that fans everywhere will love.
Chairman of Netflix Film, Dan Lin, added that Kang and Appelhans’ “bold creative swing” paid off.
I thought Maggie and Chris really went for it with their story. It was super personal, but also tackled some stuff you don’t usually see, which I really appreciated. Lin put it perfectly – they were brave enough to take a big creative risk, and it totally paid off, in my opinion.
Netflix strives to create movies people will love, and they achieved that with their most popular film ever! There are still many more stories to explore in this world, and we’re excited to share them with fans soon.
Not only did KPop Demon Hunters break streaming records, but it was also a hit with critics, earning a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
I’m so thrilled with all the recognition this movie is getting! It already won Best Animated Feature at both the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, which was amazing. And now it’s nominated for even MORE at the Oscars – Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature! I’m really hoping it takes home another award!
