Britney Spears’s ex-husband Sam Asghari says she is ‘oppressed’ as he compares her to Iranian women

Sam Asghari, Britney Spears’s former husband, stated that the singer has been controlled and mistreated by those around her, drawing a parallel between her experiences and the challenges faced by women in Iran.

A 32-year-old fitness trainer talked about the conflict between America and his home country, Iran, on Piers Morgan Uncensored. This appearance came shortly after the 44-year-old pop star was arrested and accused of driving under the influence.

Sam Asghari, who separated from Britney Spears in August 2023 after just over a year of marriage, stated he will continue to support her and hopes she’ll be okay.

When asked about Britney Spears’ struggles, Asghari explained that having grown up in Iran, where he witnessed the oppression of women, he saw parallels in how she was treated. He emphasized that, while different, she too was exploited and mistreated by many people, similar to the experiences of women in his home country.

He explained that, as a supporter of both women’s rights and free expression for all, it was deeply upsetting to witness oppression happening in America.

I understand the challenges she faces. We shared seven years together, including a year of marriage, and I continue to have a lot of respect for her.

I truly believe everyone deserves privacy, and people are bound to make errors. If she did something wrong, I’m confident she’s resilient and capable of overcoming it.

Okay, so they asked if I still talk to Britney, and honestly, I didn’t really answer directly. I just said I’ll always cherish what we had. Like, I’ll always look back on our time together with fondness, and I genuinely want her to be happy, always. It was a special time, and I’ll carry those memories with me forever, you know?

I will always have respect for her and want the best for her, and I really think she’ll be able to get through this.

Oh my god, you won’t BELIEVE this! Britney was arrested last Wednesday! The California Highway Patrol pulled her over – apparently, someone called 911 because she was driving all over the place. I heard the recording, it was so scary! I’m just so worried about her, but honestly, even this is fascinating. I’ve been following her career forever, and this is just… a lot.

Spears was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

Sources say she dismissed her coach who helped her stay sober only a few weeks before this incident. Police had also been called to her house an unusually high 14 times in the last two years.

Shortly after news of the arrest spread, Asghari discussed the situation in an interview with Fox News.

He appeared to sidestep the drama, instead continuing to focus on the Iran war.

I’ve been completely absorbed by everything happening with Iran, because honestly, it’s such a massive and important issue that it really demands all of my focus, as I see it.

Looking back on my life, I’ve learned that you can’t ignore the past – you should embrace it. I believe everyone makes errors, and everyone is entitled to their privacy.

He finished by saying he wants to remain focused on the current situation, emphasizing its importance above all else, and that he takes full responsibility for doing so.

Asghari was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1994, before moving to the United States at the age of 13.

He first met Britney Spears in 2016 when he was in her music video for the song ‘Slumber Party’.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari started dating while she was under a court-ordered conservatorship, which began due to her public struggles with mental health in 2008. The conservatorship ended in November 2021, and seven months later, in June 2022, she married Asghari.

But just over a year later, Asghari filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’

They reached an agreement in May 2024 and officially divorced in December of the same year.

Jason Alexander, Britney Spears’s ex-husband—who famously stayed married to her for just 55 hours before their marriage was annulled in 2004—also shared his thoughts on Thursday in a long post on Instagram.

People are jumping to conclusions about Britney Spears. Reports say her breathalyzer reading was a .06, which is under the legal limit in most places. And if she only had medications she was legally prescribed in her system, it completely changes how we look at the situation, according to one source.

The most serious consequences we’re looking at right now would be minor offenses like careless driving or a simple drug possession charge if anything was found in the vehicle. However, online speculation has already gone much further, with people jumping to conclusions about drunk driving and the need for rehab, despite no evidence to support those claims.

‘Britney Spears deserves the same thing anyone else does: facts, fairness, and due process.’

Britney Spears was married to Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007, and they share two sons: Sean Preston, age 20, and Jayden James, age 19.

After Britney Spears’ arrest, Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said his client hopes she’ll accept help if professionals determine it’s the right thing for her.

Kevin wishes Britney all the best and hopes she’ll accept help if she needs it, and be open to working with those who offer it, according to Kaplan.
