I’m absolutely blown away by this indie action thriller! It’s incredible to see a movie made for just $100,000 completely outperform these massive Hollywood blockbusters that cost hundreds of millions and feature all the biggest stars. So many of those big-budget films bomb in theaters and don’t do much better on streaming, but this one? It’s a revelation. Released in 2025, it’s clearly inspired by Michael Mann’s Heat, and honestly, the action sequences are just as thrilling – if not more so – than anything Hollywood is churning out. The script is tight, the acting is fantastic, and it was an underrated gem until now. I’m so glad it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves on Netflix – it’s a truly impressive film.
Netflix surprised viewers in March 2026 with a hit action thriller called Hierarchy. Despite sounding like a spin-off of shows like Ballers or Billions, it’s a surprisingly popular, low-budget film created by Russell K Reed and Chiderah Uzowulu. Added to Netflix recently, Hierarchy has quickly become a global sensation, currently ranking as the 10th most popular movie on the platform with a budget of just $100,000. It’s behind Alan Ritchson’s War Machine, which is currently number one (though War Machine‘s budget is likely much higher).
Chiderah Uzowulu wrote, directed, and stars in Hierarchy, a fast-paced heist thriller. The film centers on two adopted brothers attempting one last, ambitious robbery to secure their future. However, their troubled histories have attracted unwanted attention from both the police and the Russian mafia, and hidden family secrets threaten to derail everything.
‘Hierarchy’ Is the Definition of a Hidden Gem on Streaming
When Hierarchy was first released, it didn’t get much attention. After a short time in theaters, it became available on streaming services like Starz, Tubi, and Pluto TV, moving on and off those platforms. Now, it’s on Netflix, and that’s a big deal! Netflix took a chance on this low-budget action film, and it clearly paid off, as a lot of people are watching it.
The movie Hierarchy was largely ignored by critics. It doesn’t have a single professional review on Rotten Tomatoes, and fewer than 50 regular viewers have posted reviews. However, those who have reviewed it overwhelmingly give it 5 stars, with one viewer calling it “One of the absolute best movies I’ve seen in a while.”
