Sophie Monk’s split from her long-time manager Sean Anderson is heading to court.
Maya Jama, 46, ended her six-year working relationship with 22 Management, a top celebrity agency in Australia, back in January.
The split has become hostile, and Monk is now involved in a legal battle with the company. She was scheduled to be in Sydney District Court on January 22nd, only a few days before it was revealed she had left Anderson’s agency.
The case will return to court next month.
When the Daily Mail asked Anderson for a response, he appeared surprised by the questions at first.
He said he needed some time to consider it, explaining he wanted to gather his thoughts before elaborating.
He later got back to us saying: ‘This is a business dispute.
We’ve enjoyed working with Sophie for the past six years, but we’ve reached a disagreement about finances. We believe she owes us money, while she believes we owe her. Sadly, we haven’t been able to resolve this through discussion, so we’ll have to let the courts decide who is correct.
Daily Mail has also contacted Monk for comment.
Earlier this year, news surfaced that Monk had ended her working relationship with Anderson, 55, a change that significantly impacts her career path.
The breakup became clear when Monk deleted all posts related to 22 Management from her Instagram, and she and Anderson stopped following each other on social media.
Anderson is well-known for managing Jennifer Hawkins, the former Miss Universe, and building her successful personal brand.
He also works with many well-known Australians, such as Tammy Hembrow, Ruby Tuesday Matthews, Lindy Klim, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and David Koch.
Last November, he was seen out celebrating with Hembrow, 31, and photos of their night quickly appeared on gossip websites.
Online discussions quickly arose about the two people in the photos, with some wondering if their relationship seemed normal for a manager and client.
Anderson quickly dismissed the rumors, telling Lucy Manly from the Mail, ‘I don’t know what you’re referring to – I haven’t seen anything, but I’m 55 years old, Lucy! Really?’
The specific details behind why Monk left Anderson 22 Management – other than it involving a financial disagreement – haven’t been revealed yet.
Six years ago, Monk signed with 22 Management. Before that, he was represented by Titus Day, who used to work with Anderson.
After 20 years of friendship, Day and Anderson experienced a falling out when Monk unexpectedly left Media Talent Management, reportedly leaving Day shocked by the decision.
In December 2019, Monk’s legal team informed the firm—which was owned by Day’s wife, Courtney—that his services were no longer needed.
In mid-January 2020, Anderson revealed to The Sydney Morning Herald that Monk had contacted him to ask if he would represent her.
Day said they’d been friends for two decades, and he went to Anderson’s house on Saturday to talk things through face-to-face.
Things are strained between Sean and me now; we’re no longer on good terms. We used to be very close, having worked together for five years, but our recent visit was difficult.
Even after I became independent, I still called him to let him know when clients wanted to move their business with me—just as a professional courtesy. I was completely surprised when this happened.
Day had been overseeing Monk’s work for around ten years, and he’d been good friends with Anderson for approximately twenty years.
Anderson stated that Day unexpectedly came to his house after he signed Monk, and their friendship ended following a heated conversation.
