Liza Tarbuck, known for her roles on shows like Upstart Crow and Taskmaster, is leaving BBC Radio 2. She’s been with the station since 2007 and has hosted the Saturday evening show from 6pm to 8pm since 2012.
The show’s host has been off the air for a week, and fans started to wonder if she had left without making an announcement.
In a new Instagram post, she revealed that this was indeed the case, much to the upset of fans.
Tarbuck shared on Instagram that she quietly slipped away – making a ‘French exit’ after someone accidentally left a door unlocked.
We created a radio show that felt incredibly intimate and connected, like a special club where everyone felt like old friends. It was amazing to see so many people enjoying themselves together, and it makes me excited about what we could accomplish in the future.

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, said Liza created a special and enchanting atmosphere every Saturday evening. She was greatly loved by everyone at the station and her many listeners, and Radio 2 will always welcome her back. Liza will be deeply missed, and we wish her all the best in the future.
One fan called the situation a ‘national disaster’ and urged Parliament to address it, while another expressed deep sadness, comparing it to the feeling they had when Steve Wright passed away.
One viewer wondered if all of Tarbuck’s shows could be made permanently available on BBC Sounds, while another declared they would stop listening to Radio 2 altogether.
Someone even offered to confront Tarbuck on the frozen surface, but with a rather unusual request – they wanted to be dressed as an angry goddess while doing so.
Traffic reporter Sally Boazman, known as ‘Sally Traffic,’ expressed sadness about missing the hugs she shared with her colleague, and playfully commented on how a recent farewell post featuring Tarbuck was awkwardly cropped.
Shaun Keaveny, currently filling in on the show until the end of March, praised Tarbuck as one of the best in the business and expressed hope that she’ll return to broadcasting soon.
The BBC has stated they will announce who will permanently host the program soon.
