Right after finishing his first movie, Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller is starting a new project with horror legend Clive Barker.
Before creating the chilling character of Hannibal Lecter, Bryan Fuller had already achieved success with popular shows like Star Trek: Voyager, Heroes (which earned him an Emmy nomination), and cult favorites Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies. After Hannibal ended after three seasons, he helped develop the first season of American Gods for Starz, then returned to the Star Trek universe to create Discovery. More recently, he wrote, directed, and produced Dust Bunny.
At the Saturn Awards, Bryan Fuller told ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan about his upcoming projects. He shared that he has “plenty of ideas” and is currently working with Clive Barker on a new TV show. He’s also developing his next movie.
Bryan Fuller has a lot of projects in the works. He’s currently writing a script he hopes to direct soon, and he’s also thrilled to be working with Clive Barker on a new TV series – something he’s dreamed of since he was a kid. He’s just waiting for the right time to make them happen.
Stephen King once called Clive Barker “the future of horror,” and his stories have been adapted for film and television many times over the last 40 years, starting with the release of Rawhead Rex. While numerous works have seen screen time, the Hellraiser and Candyman franchises are his most well-known. Barker himself wrote and directed the first Hellraiser film, and he also gained a dedicated fanbase for his movie adaptation of Nightbreed.
I’m a huge fan of Clive Barker, so I was thrilled to see Hellraiser and Candyman get new life recently. It’s a shame, though, that we aren’t seeing more of his stories adapted for the screen. He’s been passionately working on a Nightbreed series for over ten years, and he’s assembled an amazing team – including folks from Saw and Trick ‘r Treat alongside Morgan Creek Entertainment – to really bring it to life. I’m hoping it finally happens!
Saber Interactive, the studio behind World War Z, is developing Hellraiser: Revival, a survival horror game. The story follows a woman who enters the Cenobites’ dimension after her boyfriend accidentally opens a portal, and his desperate attempt to rescue her. Expected to launch in late 2026, the game has benefited from early input from Clive Barker, the creator of Hellraiser, and features a return to the role of Pinhead by original actor Doug Bradley.
If Bryan Fuller’s mysterious TV project is indeed a Nightbreed series, it could finally start moving forward. Fuller has a proven history of successfully adapting horror stories for television, as seen with Hannibal. Although he’s still trying to develop a fourth season based on The Silence of the Lambs, his enthusiasm for working with Clive Barker suggests he’ll remain dedicated to this new project as well.
Even beyond Nightbreed, Clive Barker has written a huge number of stories that Bryan Fuller could adapt for television. Fuller has options ranging from fresh interpretations of classics like the six Books of Blood to completely new adaptations of works like Imajica, Tortured Souls, and Abarat. His experience with fantasy, science fiction, and horror means there are many possibilities.
