Katy Perry blasted after ‘tone-deaf’ reply to desperate fan who says she’s selling concert ticket to survive

A fan shared that she might have to sell her concert ticket because she’s struggling financially, and honestly, Katy’s reply just didn’t seem to understand the situation at all. A lot of us felt it was completely out of touch and insensitive, and we’ve been letting her know how we feel.

A fan named Ria shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday that she was having money troubles and thinking about selling her ticket to one of the singer’s concerts in Europe, which quickly became a big topic online.

She expressed feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope with her current situation, stating she’s struggling financially and is considering selling her concert ticket to make ends meet.

Katy Perry, fresh off a hugely successful 2025 tour that earned over $134 million in ticket sales, responded with a cheerful: ‘I can’t wait to see you!’

The short reply immediately caused a negative reaction, as many fans felt the singer didn’t understand the heartfelt meaning behind the original message.

One critic expressed dismay, writing, “This is really disheartening… not even a simple offer of help or a ticket…” Another was more direct, accusing the person they were addressing of being out of touch with the struggles of everyday people, saying, “You seem very disconnected from reality! You continue to live a privileged life while others struggle to afford basic necessities like food, rent, and insurance.”

The criticism kept coming, with one reviewer tweeting their disbelief: ‘I can’t believe the nerve of this! They didn’t even offer a ticket or anything? Just completely left them stranded. What happened to customer service?’

Someone else suggested that if you truly cared for her, you’d offer her a VIP experience with a meet-and-greet and encourage her to sell the ticket to have extra spending money for the concert.

‘This is so tone deaf lmao.’

Still, the backlash wasn’t one-sided.

When Katy Perry faced criticism, her fans immediately jumped to her defense, and honestly, it’s a frustrating cycle. One person pointed out that no matter what she did – even if she did offer public support – some people would accuse her of doing it for attention. It really highlights how some folks are determined to find fault, regardless of the situation.

Someone else agreed, saying that people would likely criticize her as ‘showing off’ if she offered public support. They added that the commenter was simply trying to find something to be upset about.

Ria seemed really happy that the singer had even gotten back to her, and immediately replied with a simple ‘I love you’.

When another fan commented ‘congrats’, she added: ‘Thank you, was needed and I’m grateful for it.’

 

When a fan expressed concern, writing ‘omg Ria, I really hope you’re okay,’ Ria responded that she was just going through a difficult time.

Fans continued to offer Ria their support after Katy Perry responded to her. One fan wrote a message saying they hoped Ria would still be able to see Katy, reminiscing about a previous concert they both attended and offering to be there for Ria if she needed to talk, expressing sympathy for her recent struggles and sending love. Ria simply responded with a grateful ‘Thank you.’

The next day, Ria went back to X to think about what had happened, and wrote: ‘I really didn’t think Katy would see my tweet! I have no idea how she did, but I’m thankful, and I hope it makes a difference for other people as well.’

She shared a sweet message from a fan who wrote that Katy is always there for her supporters and is incredibly kind.

Daily Mail has reached out to Ria and representatives for Perry for comment.

This criticism is happening even though many people recently complimented Perry for being kind to a fan during her Lifetimes Tour.

In August, singer Katy Perry, 40, invited a few fans to join her on stage during a concert at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena.

During a stressful situation, a fan named McKenna fainted, and Perry remained with her to ensure she was okay.

Seeing that McKenna was upset, Perry gave out small percussion instruments to some people in the crowd. He then encouraged them to practice with the instruments, telling them, ‘You can do this, let’s all take a deep breath,’ as seen in a video posted online.

When McKenna collapsed, Perry immediately knelt beside her, holding her head until the paramedics came. He then led everyone still on stage in a touching prayer.

In a heartfelt prayer shared online, she asked for McKenna’s complete recovery and hoped she would return stronger than before, ending with ‘Amen.’ She later admitted that performing for such a large audience was intimidating.

As seen in recent videos, Perry shared that performing can be incredibly challenging. She explained that even though she appears confident on stage, she sometimes feels overwhelmed and understands how difficult it can be.

Later in the show, she reassured the crowd: ‘McKenna’s doing great, by the way.’

Privately, Perry’s life is going well – she’s currently dating Canada’s former Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

She ended her nearly nine-year relationship with Orlando Bloom last year. They share a five-year-old daughter named Daisy Dove.
