Lauren Goodger weighs in on ex Mark Wright family’s ‘degrading’ comments about women who wear ‘unsexy’ thong bikinis as her TOWIE co-star shares defiant picture

Lauren Goodger is standing with women who were upset by what they considered disrespectful remarks made by the family of her former partner, Mark Wright.

Mark Wright’s sister, Jess, along with their mother Carol and another sister, Natalya, are facing criticism this week. Their comments on the ‘Wright At Home’ podcast about women’s swimwear – specifically calling thong bikinis ‘gross’ – have been described as disrespectful and degrading.

The comments caused a strong negative reaction, and the people who made them apologized on Tuesday. Now, Dani Imbert, who currently stars on TOWIE, has also spoken out about the issue.

Dani posted a TikTok video of herself confidently walking on a beach wearing a thong bikini, using audio from the Wright family podcast.

Lauren, known for her relationship and engagement to Mark on the reality show TOWIE, left a comment on Dani’s post, simply writing: ‘I LOVE this wow.’

Dani responded with ‘I love you my icon,’ which sparked a lot of likes and enthusiastic comments from fans who supported Lauren and Dani’s relationship.

‘Lauren, you had a LUCKY escape’ commented one whilst others posted ‘#teamlauren’.

Jess apologized on Tuesday afternoon with a message also posted on Carol and Natalya’s accounts. It said: ‘We’ve heard your feedback about our recent podcast comments and we want to sincerely apologize…’

During a family discussion, Jess, 40, and her mother Carol, 65, talked with Natalya, 25, about swimwear. Jess told everyone to put it away.

Former TOWIE star Jess shared that her husband, William Kemp, is very uncomfortable with overly revealing clothing. He’s told her he doesn’t understand why anyone would find that appealing and prefers when people leave something to the imagination, questioning who wants to see that much exposed.

Carol was surprised to reveal that her husband, 69-year-old Mark Wright Sr., doesn’t like thong bikinis, after seeing them on vacationers. Social media users noted that her daughter, Jess, used to wear similar swimwear.

The video quickly sparked a strong reaction on social media. Many users responded by sharing their own bikini photos with the message ‘I don’t dress to impress your husband,’ while others shared older photos of Jess herself wearing revealing bikinis.

Jess, Natalya, and Carol started their show, Wright At Home, last November. While the show itself has been gaining some attention, a discussion about bikinis unexpectedly went viral on TikTok, even after the creators took the video down from their Instagram page.

The conversation began with Jess expressing her dislike of thong bikinis on the beach. Natalya then added that while people are free to wear what they want, those who choose thongs should be considerate and cover up when bending over, perhaps by wearing a sarong over their swimsuit.

Carol joined the conversation: ‘I really do think this is not sexy for men to look at’. 

Jess shared what her husband thought, explaining, ‘Will really dislikes it. He told me, ‘I don’t get why anyone would find that appealing.’ He thinks it’s better to be subtle and leave something to the imagination. Nobody wants to see something so explicit.’

Carol suggested being a little more subtle, saying ‘Leave something to the imagination – it’s much more appealing.’ Jess chimed in, asking people to choose bikini bottoms that offer more coverage.

The grandmother then shared a story about a vacation she took with her husband, recounting how he commented on the appearances of three women with different body types.

She recounted a walk with her father along the boardwalk, where they passed three girls whose revealing clothing caught his attention. He commented that he didn’t find the display attractive.

Social media users circulated older photos of Jess wearing revealing bikinis, with some showing a significant amount of her backside due to the minimal coverage of the swimwear.

Okay, seriously, everyone acting shocked right now? Like, hello?! Anyone remember Jess on TOWIE? She always rocked bikinis like that when they were at pool parties! It’s so annoying that people are pretending this is new or scandalous. I have screenshots to prove it, honestly! They’re just being totally hypocritical.

Oh my gosh, it’s just SO frustrating! It’s the ultimate hypocrisy, isn’t it? Like, they’re quick to judge everyone else, but when they do it, it’s totally different! Talk about a double standard – it makes me see red, honestly! It’s just…ugh! So annoying!

Okay, so there’s this one picture that’s been stuck in my head. It’s from Jess’s hen do in 2021, and she’s walking through an airport… and honestly, the outfit! She had on this amazing fringed skirt, but you could totally see what was underneath – the tiniest little shorts! I can’t stop thinking about it, it was just… perfect.

People were frustrated by the idea of women not supporting each other, and one TikTok user specifically said they didn’t care what Will thought.

It’s upsetting that women still face criticism from other women about what they wear.

Honestly, I don’t dress to impress anyone’s husband, and I definitely don’t want him sexualizing me. The skimpy outfits villains wear have nothing to do with that.

I saw this crazy video online – it showed two girls on a boat, and someone had put text over it saying they needed to completely revamp their summer clothes because Jess Wright’s husband and father apparently didn’t approve of what they were wearing! It was so bizarre.
