Disneyland Park visitors faced a temporary disruption Tuesday when sections of Tomorrowland were evacuated. This followed a backstage incident involving hazardous materials that made several Disneyland employees sick and required hospitalization.
Park officials temporarily closed parts of Tomorrowland and evacuated guests from attractions like Space Mountain while emergency teams dealt with an unspecified situation, according to several reports from within the park.
Hazardous Material Incident Triggers Response
Anaheim Fire & Rescue was called to Disneyland Resort after a hazardous materials alert went off in the Tomorrowland area, according to early reports.
Theme park reporter Scott Gustin reported the problem began when a contractor was using building materials behind the scenes.
Disneyland experienced a temporary incident when fumes from building materials used by a contractor caused some cast members to feel unwell. Paramedics treated several people at the park, and five who felt dizzy or had trouble breathing were transported to nearby hospitals.

According to officials, building materials brought in by a contractor caused some cast members at Disneyland to feel unwell. Paramedics treated several people at the park, and five who were experiencing dizziness and trouble breathing were transported to nearby hospitals.
The incident caused Disney employees to start evacuating sections of Tomorrowland as emergency teams checked for any dangers.
Space Mountain Evacuated and Multiple Attractions Closed
As things developed, Disneyland staff started moving guests away from some of the close-by rides and attractions.

Reports from the park indicate the following locations were temporarily closed during the incident:
- Space Mountain
- Star Tours
- Star Traders gift shop
- Space Mountain restrooms
- Upper level of Star Wars Launch Bay
Visitors on Space Mountain had to leave the ride, and Disney employees guided other guests clear of the area.
While emergency crews were working, the actors prevented people from entering nearby stores and walking on the paths.
Cast Members Experience Medical Symptoms
The emergency response was activated after multiple Disneyland employees complained of feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing.
Gustin followed up with a revised report detailing how many people were taken for additional medical checkups.
Just heard some news from Disneyland, and wanted to share an update. Apparently, eight cast members felt dizzy and had trouble breathing, so as a precaution, they were taken to nearby hospitals to get checked out. It’s important to note that being taken to the hospital isn’t the same as being admitted – they’re just getting things looked at, which is definitely the right thing to do. As a movie lover, I always appreciate when safety is prioritized, and it sounds like Disneyland is doing that here.

Eight Disneyland employees reported feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing and were taken to nearby hospitals to be checked out, a spokesperson said. This doesn’t necessarily mean they were admitted to the hospital – they simply underwent medical evaluations.
I heard that when things first happened, paramedics helped a lot of people right there. Then, they decided a few others needed to go to the hospital just to be safe, you know, as a precaution.
As of the latest information, none of the people who were transported needed to be admitted to the hospital.
Tomorrowland Operations Disrupted
The emergency response forced Disney to suspend several scheduled park operations.
So, I heard from folks actually at the park that the 1:30 p.m. parade had to be canceled. Apparently, everyone – the cast members, especially – jumped in to help clear the area and assist the emergency teams. It sounds like they were prioritizing getting things under control over keeping the show going, which is totally understandable.

Photos from the area showed actors standing in a line outside the Star Trader store, preventing people from getting to that part of Tomorrowland.
Guests were guided through behind-the-scenes areas as rides were shut down and emergency teams checked for any problems.
Investigation Ongoing
According to updates from Scott Gustin, the reaction was probably caused by materials a contractor was using behind the scenes. However, officials haven’t yet said exactly what those materials were.
I was on the scene at Tomorrowland when things went sideways, and I have to say, the emergency response was impressively fast. They quickly secured the area and started checking in on cast members who weren’t feeling well, making sure everyone got the help they needed. It was a smooth, professional operation, thankfully.

Disney hasn’t yet explained exactly what triggered the reaction, or if they’ll be making any changes to improve safety after what happened.
The situation seems to be under control now. The incident caused a temporary disruption to the park and some rides were briefly closed while emergency crews checked the area, but everything is back to normal.
