Warwick Davis is supported by his daughter Annabelle and son Harrison as he’s awarded an OBE by Prince William at Windsor Castle

Warwick Davis received his OBE from Prince Charles on Wednesday with the support of an unidentified woman. This appearance came after Davis publicly thanked a woman he affectionately calls ‘Sponge’ for helping him find love again after the passing of his wife.

Actor Jason Isaacs, age 56, received an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) award for his contributions to acting and charitable work. He was accompanied by his children, Annabelle, 28, and Harrison, 23, at the ceremony.

Warwick chatted with Prince William as he received the award, while his children and a woman whose identity isn’t publicly known watched from the audience.

Warwick and his late wife, Samantha, had two children together. Samantha sadly passed away in 2024 after experiencing a cardiac arrest brought on by complications from necessary surgery.

The celebrity publicly thanked someone who helped him find love again last year, but he’s only identified her by the nickname ‘Sponge’.

During his BAFTA Fellowship acceptance speech last year, he jokingly acknowledged someone he called ‘Sponge,’ saying, ‘Special thanks to you, you know who you are.’

He expressed his gratitude, saying that they had reminded him of the joy in life and helped him rediscover love and laughter.

When Jonathan Ross asked Warwick who ‘Sponge’ was last year, Warwick jokingly revealed it was a reference to Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series, calling him ‘She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named’.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve noticed a really interesting parallel! Warwick pointed out that the character Sponge, from a recent show, strongly reminds him of Daisy May Cooper’s iconic Kerry Mucklowe. He specifically mentioned similarities in the way both characters speak – their phrasing and, crucially, their accents. It’s a clever observation, and really highlights how authentic both performances are!

Warwick’s wife, Samantha Davis, a fellow actress, passed away on March 24, 2024, at University College Hospital in London. She was 53 years old.

The investigation into her death determined that she died of a heart attack brought on by problems during and after necessary surgery.

In 2019, she developed sepsis and required intensive care. This occurred after she had surgery on her spine at University College London Hospital.

Warwick movingly dedicated his BAFTA fellowship award to his late wife during the awards ceremony.

The couple first connected on the set of the 1988 fantasy film Willow, where he played the main character, Willow Ufgood. They later married in 1991.

Warwick and Samantha had three children: Annabelle, Harrison, and a son who sadly passed away just nine days after his birth.

Warwick Davis is famous for playing characters like Professor Flitwick and Griphook in the Harry Potter films, and for his funny appearances with Karl Pilkington on the show An Idiot Abroad. He’s also widely recognized and praised for his work supporting people with dwarfism.

The actor was born with a rare form of dwarfism called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita.

In 2012, he and his late wife, Samantha, started the charity Little People UK to help people with dwarfism and their families.

Davis will be back as Professor Flitwick in the upcoming new Harry Potter series. He’s confirmed he’ll reprise the role in the reboot.

In 2025, the actor received the BAFTA Fellowship – the organization’s highest award – in recognition of his outstanding work both on screen and as an advocate.
