After fans criticized Selena Gomez for kissing his feet, Benny Blanco explained that he does, in fact, practice good hygiene.
The 33-year-old actress made a guest appearance on the first episode of her husband’s podcast, ‘Friends Keep Secrets,’ and sweetly shared how much she loves him.
About an hour into the show, Selena, while on the floor, reached up and kissed Benny’s foot, which was resting on the coffee table.
Fans were upset and voiced their complaints after seeing what they considered to be dirty feet belonging to the character Benny from the show ‘Only Murders In The Building’.
The record producer recently explained his personal hygiene routine during a conversation with Ed Sheeran on his podcast.
Thirty-eight-year-old Benny asked the singer if he showered every day. The singer responded that he usually did, often even twice a day.
Ed Sheeran explained that he identifies with his fans, even though he might not appear to. He joked about feeling like he doesn’t seem to have good hygiene.
‘But actually you’re the best-smelling person I know.’
Benny is very much aware of his aroma, replying: ‘I know, I smell good’.
Rapper Lil Dicky, also known as David Burd, arrived with his wife, Kirstin Batalucco, and mentioned that people frequently comment on his unique scent.
Benny playfully told Ed he sometimes smelled bad, and then jokingly suggested Ed compare the scents of their belly buttons.
Ed said Burd’s stank like ‘bum hole’ while Benny said his smelt ‘of nothing’.
After Selena kissed Benny’s foot, he told her he enjoyed it. She playfully scolded him, telling him not to turn it into a big deal.
‘I liked it,’ he continued of his wife’s gesture. ‘It made me feel good. I love you so much.’
During that same show, Benny admitted he sometimes holds back from openly showing affection for Selena.
He expressed a strong attraction to this woman and was very pleased, even aroused, by the simple act of her kissing his toe.
People on social media didn’t react well to Gomez’s affectionate moment and quickly criticized it online.
Honestly, I was shocked by what I saw online. Someone on X – formerly Twitter – posted that Benny and Selena are ‘the smelliest couple’ they’ve ever encountered, and it was just… really harsh. It felt unnecessarily mean, and I couldn’t believe someone would actually say that publicly.
‘I love Selena, but why [did] she set herself up doing this?’ asked another.
A third begged the question: ‘If she does it in front of everyone, what does she do in private?’
‘Oh my God this woman is so disgusting,’ continued a fourth. ‘I’m sure she stinks worse than him.’
Another simply said: ‘Humiliation ritual.’
Selena and Benny began dating in July 2023, though people didn’t start speculating about a romantic connection between them until December.
They announced their engagement in December 2024 and got married in September 2025.
