The new series, NCIS: Origins, shows the beginnings of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ leadership journey, a first for the NCIS franchise. Austin Stowell stars as a young Gibbs in the 1990s, and while the show explores many early cases in his career, the episode titled “Lean on Me” is particularly significant.
Season 2 of NCIS: Origins shows how Gibbs rises to become a Special Agent-in-Charge, culminating in Episode 10. The original NCIS series, which began in 2003, featured Gibbs as a key leader at NCIS headquarters. Essentially, NCIS: Origins Season 2 continues to explore the development of Gibbs’s core strengths and how he became the agent fans know and love.
NCIS: Origins Reveals A Historic Franchise First For Leroy Jethro Gibbs
The team is getting ready for a mandatory bonding night, organized by NIS Evidence Custodian Richard Kowalski (Michael Harney), who likes to encourage team spirit. But when Gibbs decides to stay behind to demonstrate his leadership abilities, he unexpectedly finds himself facing a challenging situation.
I was totally hooked from the start of this episode! It opens with Gibbs getting ready to lock up the office for the night when this soldier walks in looking really sick – like, seriously unwell. Turns out he’s got botulism, which is scary! Gibbs immediately takes charge of the investigation, figuring out what’s going on while the rest of the team is stuck quarantining at a bar. It was a tense situation, seeing Gibbs try to solve everything with limited resources!
This episode is a first for Gibbs, as he takes the lead on a case – a chance that arose because a new agent proved their worth. After successfully handling an interrogation in the last episode, Gibbs continues to grow, relying on his gut feelings to guide the team in Episode 10.
Gibbs consistently puts himself in harm’s way to protect his team, like when he locked Mike and himself in the office to stop a possible infection. NCIS: Origins shows how he developed into the strong, intuitive leader he’s known for, highlighting the beginnings of his commanding personality and quick thinking.
What Gibbs’ Character Changes Mean For NCIS: Origins Season 2
Gibbs heads up a diverse team at the Naval Investigative Service, including Herman Daniels, Gail Price, and Nadia. Though some, like Kowalski, doubted their ability to succeed given past struggles, the team proves its worth and improves the overall performance of the NIS office.
The new series, NCIS: Origins, kicks off a significant storyline for the character, revealing the beginnings of a key trait that would become central to Harmon’s character in the original NCIS. Season 2 of NCIS: Origins focuses on how Gibbs developed his leadership skills, particularly with the help of the colleagues who most influenced him.
Continuing their developing bond, Gibbs received more support from the NIS Evidence Custodian. Kowalski recognizes the lessons Leroy still needs to learn and is stepping in to help him understand them. Meanwhile, Lala believes in Gibbs’ abilities and encourages him, even urging him to deliver an inspiring speech.
Leroy Jethro Gibbs is known for his strong instincts, decisive leadership, and ability to work with a team. The prequel series reveals how Gibbs developed these traits, showing that he didn’t become the leader he is alone – it took the support and influence of others to shape him.
I’ve been watching closely, and the latest episodes, especially “Lean on Me,” really give you a sense of where things are going with Gibbs. It looks like he’s going to keep taking on more and more responsibility, and honestly, it’s all building up to him moving to Washington D.C. to lead the Major Case Response Team – just like Mark Harmon originally started doing back in 2003. It’s exciting to see the story heading in that direction!
