Adolescence leads nominations at the Royal Television Society Awards with six nods – including a ‘breakthrough’ prize for Owen Cooper, 16

The teen drama ‘Adolescence’ is leading the pack at this year’s Royal Television Society Awards, receiving nominations in six different categories when the nominees were announced.

The popular Netflix series, featuring Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham, has earned more nominations than any other show this year, including recognition for both its limited series format and as a single dramatic production.

Sixteen-year-old Owen, who stars as Jamie Miller, a character dealing with difficulties, has been nominated for two awards this year: Breakthrough Performance and Best Supporting Actor.

His co-star Stephen, 52, is also in the running for a gong for male Leading Actor.

Graham is nominated for an award alongside Anthony Boyle from House of Guinness, Bobby Schofield from Unforgivable, and Malachi Kirby, all for their performances in their respective projects, including Graham’s work in A Thousand Blows.

Erin Doherty, the Irish actress recently recognized at the Golden Globes, is up for the Supporting Actress award. She’s competing against Saskia Reeves from ‘Slow Horses,’ Anna Friel for ‘Unforgivable,’ and Amiee Lou Wood from ‘Toxic Town’.

New mother Erin, 33, is also nominated for female Leading Actor for her role in A Thousand Blows.

I’m so excited to see the incredible talent nominated this year! Alongside me, Rose Ayling-Ellis, who you might know from EastEnders, is up for an award for her powerful performance in ITV’s ‘Code of Silence.’ We’re also joined by Narges Rashidi from ‘Prisoner 951’ and Tamara Lawrance, who wowed audiences in ‘Get Millie Black.’ It’s a truly strong lineup!

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always keeping an eye on what’s trending, and this year the BBC is really leading the pack! They’ve earned an impressive 47 nominations – that’s the most of anyone – across all 29 categories. It’s a testament to the quality content they’re consistently putting out.

Steve Coogan, Oliver Savell, Jon Pointing, and Adjani Salmon are all nominated for the award for Best Comedy Performance by a Male.

Celebrity Traitors is a frontrunner for an award, having been nominated alongside popular shows like Married at First Sight and Race Across the World.

Claudia Winkleman is nominated for Best Entertainment Performance for her work on a popular BBC show. She’s up against Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, who are nominated for their series, and Romesh Ranganathan again for his show, Can’t Knock the Hustle.

Davina McCall is the frontrunner in the Presenter category this year. She’s joined by Martin Lewis, known for his popular ITV consumer advice show, and Hamza Yassin, who rose to fame on Strictly and now hosts Hidden Wild Isles.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale, popular soaps on ITV, weren’t nominated for the Soap and Continuing Drama award. Instead, Casualty, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks will be competing for the prize.

Competing for Best Drama are Blue Lights, Code of Silence, Slow Horses and This City Is Ours.

Amandaland received two nominations for Best Comedy Performance by a Female, with Lucy Punch and Philippa Dunne competing against an actress from Transaction.

Jordan Gray and Katherine Parkinson for Here We Go.

Tom Allen, the comedian and TV host, will return to host the awards show for the fifth year in a row on Tuesday, March 24th.

Kenton Allen, Chair of the RTS Programme Awards and CEO of Big Talk Studios, explained that the awards showcase the incredible creativity within the UK television industry.
