‘We were meant to be together at that time’: Cody Simpson opens up about dating Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Miley Cyrus as he details being in love for the first time

Cody Simpson recently discussed his past relationships, including those with Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Miley Cyrus.

Australian singer, 29, has found love again with American influencer Adelia Clark, 32. This came just two weeks after his breakup with Olympic swimmer Emma McKeon became public. He recently discussed his past relationships in an interview.

Cody shared that when he was 13 and moved to Los Angeles to chase his dream of becoming a singer, he quickly met Kylie, who would become his first girlfriend.

He shared on Paul C. Brunson’s podcast, ‘We Need To Talk,’ that he and his now-husband connected over shared unusual experiences and were together for about a year.

He remembered meeting Kylie at the premiere of Twilight 3. He thought it was a funny story.

I first met Kylie when I was around fifteen, and she was probably fourteen or fifteen too – she’s a little younger than me. It was at an event where they were interviewing people on the red carpet, and I remember seeing her and Kendall there.

They recently began pursuing their own projects, likely inspired by their sisters’ success, and were simultaneously gaining public attention through a television show they were appearing on.

They were talking to people as they arrived at the Twilight premiere. I brought my sister along because she was a big fan of the movies.

I remember asking Kylie for her number, and we started texting and talking. We were both young, and we went on a few dates, like going to the movies. We dated for about a year and became close because we were going through similar, unusual experiences.

He explained that it was a good experience, and it was nice to connect with someone his age in that environment. He described his unusual high school situation – being homeschooled meant his ‘school’ was essentially the Hollywood world he was already a part of, and he didn’t have a traditional school with girls to relate to.

It was really hard to meet people outside of work events like movie premieres – specifically the ‘Twilight’ premiere – or my own concerts. Those weren’t exactly normal places to try and start dating, though. I didn’t have many opportunities to just be a regular young guy and try to connect with people.

Cody began dating Gigi, a rising supermodel who had recently gained attention with a Guess billboard campaign, which is how the singer first noticed her.

The Australian celebrity shared that Gigi was his first romantic relationship, explaining that they dated for two years after he carefully planned a special way to ask her out.

He recalled being at the mall with a friend around the time he turned sixteen. She was a few years older and had just appeared in her first Guess billboard advertisement.

I figured she was a couple of years older than me – probably around 18 while I was 16. At the time, I thought she was really cool and sophisticated.

We were just walking around the mall when I spotted someone and asked my friend who it was. He told me it was Gigi. I asked if he knew her, and he offered to give me her number, which I accepted.

I know this sounds a little silly, but I actually called her out of the blue. I told her I was a musician working on a music video and asked if she’d be interested in being in it.

There wasn’t a music video planned, and I’d already filmed videos for my second album. I was hoping to include you in one of them.

I think I completely made up an idea and presented it to her, and she just went along with it. That really helped us connect. After that, I started texting her, saying I didn’t think the video project would work out, but asking if she’d like to hang out and grab a bite to eat.

I just got my first car and felt amazing! Even though I wasn’t old enough to drive alone yet, I remember going to pick up a friend and we spent time together.

She felt like my first love, you know? We were together, on and off, for around two years. It started with just hanging out, and then a couple weeks later, she joined me on tour. We really connected through her family, who were a really interesting bunch of people.

My stepdad was David Foster, a very talented music producer. Looking back, I realize I didn’t fully appreciate having him in my life at the time.

He walked into the studio and mentioned he’d discovered Michael Bublé, a really popular jazz artist – someone I’ve come to enjoy, too.

They were together from 2013 to 2015, but ultimately broke up because their busy lives and distance made it difficult to maintain the relationship.

A few years later, Cody began dating Miley, the Disney actress and singer. They connected because they both understood what it was like to be young stars trying to break free from the typical teen pop image.

Miley and her friend had a long-standing friendship that blossomed into a romance after her breakup with Liam Hemsworth.

Cody explained to Paul that he and Miley spent the entire COVID lockdown together. However, they originally met when Cody was 18 years old.

We used to spend a lot of time together – going to parties, just hanging out. We had a lot in common, and she even designed the artwork for one of my songs, called ‘Flower’.

We really connected because we were both pushing back against the pressures of being teen pop stars.

Cody explained that she had openly rebelled against that situation over time and faced some challenges. He believes that when he began to experience similar things, she entered his life and offered guidance.

After I started pursuing a singer-songwriter career on my own, I went through a really hippie phase for a couple of years, and she was simply a supportive friend during that time.

We didn’t speak for a few years, but as we got older and more mature, we reconnected, and our relationship eventually evolved into something more.

It just felt like the right time for us to be together. We were both in good places, emotionally and mentally, which was different from when we were just friends years ago.

Okay, so it looks like Cody has moved on quickly! Just two weeks after everyone found out about his breakup with Olympic swimmer Emma, he seems to be dating someone new. It’s definitely a whirlwind, but people process things in different ways, and it’s interesting to see how things unfold after a split like that.

Cody’s sister, Alli, recently confirmed on The Morning Show that he and the Olympic athlete broke up late last year and have both moved on with their lives.

‘She is like sunshine in human form, so I’m just so happy they can move forward,’ Alli said.

Alli didn’t say why she and her partner are separating, but she stated they both want privacy as they move forward. The couple started dating in April 2022.

You know, I always believe in respecting people’s privacy, especially when it comes to personal matters. I care for both of them a great deal, and I feel it’s best to let them handle things in their own way and on their own time. It’s really about giving them the space they need.

After starting their relationship in April 2022, the couple fueled rumors of a split as they seemed to be growing apart.

The last time Cody and Emma were seen together publicly was in December, when Emma, as an Omega ambassador, appeared at a watch collection launch event.
