The new film faces high expectations, needing to deliver both at the box office and with a compelling story. No Way Home proved successful by bringing together Tom Holland with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. As more new characters like Scorpion and Tombstone are revealed, anticipation is growing. However, fans remain particularly intrigued by the unknown role Sadie Sink will play.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve been following the casting rumors, and everyone’s talking about Jean Grey, which makes sense. But honestly, I think there’s another character from the comics’ history that’s being totally overlooked: Firestar! She first showed up in the old Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon, and I think Sydney Sweeney would be absolutely perfect for the role. It’s funny, the answer might have been right in front of us the whole time!
Sadie Sink’s Character Could Be Firestar From Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
For years, characters originally created for comic books have expanded into other forms of media, like animation. Sometimes, these new versions inspire characters that then appear in the original comics. Firestar is a great example – she first showed up in the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends cartoon. When the creators of the comic The Avengers needed a fire-based hero but couldn’t use the Human Torch, they brought Firestar (also known as Angelica “Angel” Jones) into the mix. Like the Human Torch, Firestar has the power to fly and control fire and heat.
Firestar’s connection to the X-Men offers Marvel Studios a potential way to introduce mutants, as Kevin Feige has hinted at. Additionally, she previously had a romantic relationship with Spider-Man in the animated series. Given that Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy have been featured in many Spider-Man films, Marvel and Sony might be interested in exploring a fresh romantic interest for Peter Parker.
If included in Spider-Man 4, Firestar would be Spider-Man’s first on-screen love interest with superpowers. Her less well-known status compared to other rumored characters could also give the film more creative flexibility.
The MCU’s Spider-Man Films Have Set the Stage For Firestar
For a long time, Sony wasn’t able to include Spider-Man in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, that changed when they began collaborating with Marvel Studios on the Spider-Man films. As a result, popular MCU characters like Iron Man, Nick Fury, and Doctor Strange have appeared in supporting roles throughout the trilogy, alongside many other familiar and unexpected faces.
The new movie definitely leaves the door open for a character like Firestar to appear in a future Spider-Man film. Considering Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends originally aired in the 1980s, it’s likely Kevin Feige watched it as a child and now sees the potential to include a character from that series.
Marvel and Sony have successfully built compelling supporting characters around Spider-Man in the MCU movies, helping to shape his journey. The MCU is also good at taking lesser-known characters and making them popular, and Firestar could be next. As the Spider-Man films have evolved, so has the number of important side characters, making it likely we’ll see more in the future – with Firestar, potentially played by Sink, being a key addition.
The upcoming Spider-Man movie will be a significant challenge for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because of Spider-Man’s importance to the franchise, Marvel Studios is probably planning a big connection to the larger Multiverse Saga. Considering it’s releasing in the same year as the new Avengers movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be just as impactful, or even more so.
Looking at where the Spider-Man movies have gone within the MCU, it feels like another big team-up is inevitable, and honestly, so many characters could show up. We’ve seen how Spider-Man’s stories always connect him to different parts of the Marvel Universe. Homecoming was all about Tony Stark and that world, while Far From Home sent Peter Parker traveling and brought in S.H.I.E.L.D. and those Skrulls. Then No Way Home really blew things open, diving into the magical side of the MCU with Doctor Strange and Wong, and of course, messing with the multiverse. It’s clear they’re building towards something huge!
Spider-Man easily fits into any Marvel storyline, and with the Marvel Cinematic Universe starting to introduce mutants, the next Spider-Man movie is a great chance to connect those worlds. Spider-Man has a history with mutants in the comics, and the upcoming film could finally bring that connection to life in the MCU, potentially featuring the character Firestar.
There’s been a lot of guessing about what role Sadie Sink might play in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. Instead of the popular choice, Jean Grey, Marvel Studios could be considering a lesser-known mutant who has a significant connection to Spider-Man. Regardless of who she plays, Sink is becoming a well-known actress, so it’s sure to be an important part in the film. If she ends up playing Firestar, it could be a huge development for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Spider-Man is the ideal character to explore that storyline.
