I recently read a memo where Wasserman admitted his name popping up in the Justice Department’s release of documents about Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell was causing a problem – a distraction, to be exact. He seems to be acknowledging it’s become an issue he needs to address.

Wasserman expressed his sadness that a short interaction he had with them 23 years ago was now causing problems for the organization he founded in 2002.

Wasserman apologized to his team for any distress caused by his past personal errors. He explained that these mistakes were unfair to both his colleagues and the clients and partners they work hard to support.

Wasserman and Maxwell likely first met in September 2002 while on a charitable trip to Africa organized by Bill Clinton.

Doug Wasserman, a major fundraiser for Bill Clinton and the grandson of a key figure in Clinton’s 1992 election victory, flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet with his wife, Laura, actor Kevin Spacey, Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and several security personnel.

The exact start date of the email exchange between Wasserman and Maxwell is unknown, but Justice Department records show messages from March and April 2003. In these emails, Wasserman expressed interest in seeing Maxwell wearing leather and offered him a massage she described as intensely stimulating.

Maxwell was convicted of sexual abuse in 2021.
