Kyle Sandilands has shared news about his health following his brain aneurysm diagnosis last year.
Listeners were surprised in February when the 54-year-old radio personality announced he needed urgent surgery. Doctors had discovered an aneurysm in his brain and another in his chest.
Nearly a year after receiving his surprising diagnosis, Sandilands shared positive news about his health with The Daily Telegraph, saying things are looking good.
The Australian Idol judge shared that his check-ups – done every six months since his diagnosis – have shown the aneurysms haven’t increased in size.
‘They re-looked at all those scans and said it’s good,’ Sandilands said.
The interesting thing is, when they discovered it, they didn’t know if I’d had it for thirty years or just thirty days.
He explained that the brain surgery to repair his aneurysm carries significant risks, and described it as a very invasive procedure, saying doctors would essentially have to make a large incision across his face.
Doctors are currently monitoring the aneurysm’s size, but surgery isn’t possible at this time.
Okay, so it’s not tiny, and honestly, I’ve seen the smaller ones just fail – they leak and everything. But it’s still not quite what I’m aiming for, not the perfect piece, you know? So I just keep pushing forward, keep working at it. I have to. I’m obsessed with getting it right!

Sandilands shared that he learned on Friday he has a brain aneurysm and needs surgery right away. He joked that even the way the doctors described it – referring to them as a ‘medical team’ – made it sound serious.
Honestly, my doctor saved my life. He was blunt – said if I hadn’t come in, I wouldn’t be here today. It really hit me – all those years chasing highs, the constant parties… it was a terrible way to live, and I’m so glad I finally woke up. It’s like I was heading for disaster, and now I’m finally on the path to getting better.
The radio personality later shared that doctors would need to perform a traditional, open surgery – rather than a minimally invasive procedure – to reach the aneurysm located on the front right of his brain.
He also shared that he requires another operation to address a newly discovered aneurysm in his chest.
The brain aneurysm is located at a difficult spot – a branching point at the top of the brain. Its shape makes surgery challenging, and the only way to reach it is through open skull surgery, he explained to Jackie O Henderson.
This will leave a significant scar running from my forehead to the top of my ear. The surgery involves drilling a hole in my skull to access and remove the problem area within my brain.
Sandilands explained that the doctor advised him to simply observe the condition and see if it grows, rather than taking immediate action. He anticipates fewer issues with this approach.
Kyle explained that any medical procedure significantly increases his risk. The doctor advised him to take the weekend to consider his options, and then mentioned a second surgery was also being considered.
Doctors discovered another growth in my chest, which will require a separate operation. I also have a significant buildup of calcium in my heart, putting me at high risk of a heart attack.
