Elijah Wood Addresses Lord of the Rings Recasting Frodo

I was really interested to hear what Elijah Wood had to say about the new Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum. He basically made it clear he’s not ready to let anyone else play Frodo! He talked about the possibility of recasting the role for this new film or any future Lord of the Rings projects, and it sounds like he’d really prefer to keep playing the part himself, which, as a fan, I totally get!

Elijah Wood has made it clear he’s the only one who should play Frodo Baggins as long as he’s able. He told The Sunday Times he firmly believes that’s the case. This comes after his Lord of the Rings colleague, Ian McKellen, hinted in 2025 that Wood might reprise the role in a potential film called The Hunt for Gollum.

Wood confirmed that while nothing is official yet, Ian hinted at the possibility of a new film during a convention last August. He can’t confirm anything until it’s formally announced, but he expressed excitement about the idea. He acknowledged that fans are often protective of the world of Middle-earth and want any new movie to be respectful of its legacy, but he believes this story will be enjoyable and exciting, and feels like a reunion of the original creative team.

Wood’s statements align with reports that Ian McKellen will once again play Gandalf the Grey in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. However, McKellen mentioned in an interview with Empire earlier this year that his involvement isn’t confirmed yet.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum May Recast Multiple Iconic Roles

I’m hearing some interesting stuff about the new Lord of the Rings movie! Apparently, they might be recasting some of the iconic roles, which is a little shocking. This film is set during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, and it seems like the story will involve Gandalf asking Aragorn for help finding Gollum – just like it’s explained in the Appendices of Tolkien’s book. But the big rumor is they might be replacing the actor who played Aragorn with Leo Woodall, which is a huge change if it’s true!
