Arnold Schwarzenegger will ride again as one of his most memorable characters.
Released in 1982, the film featured Arnold Schwarzenegger as the main character, a warrior seeking brutal revenge on a cult that destroyed his family and community. It was a hit in theaters, but a 2011 remake starring Jason Momoa didn’t perform well and appeared to end the series.
Arnold Schwarzenegger recently announced at the Arnold Sports Festival (according to TheArnoldFans) that he’s coming back to play Conan in a new movie called King Conan. The project appears to be moving forward quickly, with Christopher McQuarrie, known for his work on Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, writing and directing.
Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Tom Cruise in his last four films, has been hired to write and direct the next Conan movie, King Conan.
I’m really excited about the new Conan the Barbarian movie! Schwarzenegger told me they’re writing the script with his age in mind, which I think is smart. He’s in his 70s now, and they’re not going to pretend he’s still 40! He says he’ll still be kicking butt, but it’ll be a different kind of action – something that fits his age and experience. It sounds awesome!
The next Conan movie will follow an older Conan as he battles to reclaim his kingdom. Schwarzenegger has hinted at lots of big action sequences and impressive visual effects.
The new Conan story focuses on his time as king – forty years, in fact – and what happens when he’s overthrown. Expect plenty of action, conflict, magic, monsters, and all the things fans love. Because the studio has a large budget, the films will feature impressive special effects, and I’m excited to see how they turn out.
In addition to reprising his role as Conan, Arnold Schwarzenegger hints he has a lot planned for the next few years, including sequels to some of his most popular 1980s movies. He’s set to return as Dutch in a new Predator film directed by Dan Trachtenberg (who previously worked on Predator: Badlands), and there’s also a sequel in the works for his 1985 hit, Commando.
Recently, a new Predator film was made, and the director, Dan Trachtenberg, did a fantastic job. Now, he’s asked me to be in the next Predator movie, and we’ve discussed it. Actually, the studio, FOX, seems to be revisiting my past work. They approached me about starring in a new Predator and also sent me a script for Commando 2.
