Assassin’s Creed Is 100% Free for a Limited Time

A hugely popular game in the series is temporarily becoming free, and it’s just received a significant update.

The game Assassin’s Creed Unity now has a free update that allows it to run at a smooth 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Plus, Assassin’s Creed Unity is only the first of several Assassin’s Creed games that will be available to play for free during Xbox’s Free Play Days event, happening from April 2nd to April 6th.

April Will Be a Big Month for Assassin’s Creed Fans

Ubisoft has announced that players can soon enjoy a smoother experience with Assassin’s Creed Unity on consoles, revisiting 18th-century Paris and Arno’s parkour skills. Xbox players have an extra perk: several Assassin’s Creed games will be available to play for free from April 2nd to 6th as part of Xbox Free Play Days. This is a great opportunity to try Unity with its enhanced 60 FPS performance.

I was so excited when Assassin’s Creed Rogue came out in 2014! It’s the eighth main game in the series, and it follows Arno, a Frenchman whose dad, an Assassin, died in the last game. The story really grabbed me because Arno’s adoptive father, a Templar, is brutally murdered, and Arno sets out to get revenge. As he does, he climbs the ranks and becomes a full-fledged Assassin. It’s a fantastic game!

When Assassin’s Creed Unity launched in 2014, it quickly gained popularity with players. Despite some controversies surrounding its release, the game still achieved a significant milestone, selling over 10 million copies by 2020. Currently, the Xbox version of Assassin’s Creed Unity has a Metascore of 7.2 out of 10, according to the review website Metacritic.

What’s Next for the Assassin’s Creed Franchise?

Assassin’s Creed fans have a lot to be excited about in the future, including new games like Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. But perhaps the biggest news is the upcoming live-action series on Netflix, which has just cast its first lead actor: Toby Wallace, known for his role in Eden.

The new Assassin’s Creed series, created by Ubisoft Film & Television, will be a fast-paced thriller focusing on a hidden conflict between two groups: one aiming to control humanity’s destiny, and the other fighting to protect freedom. The series will star Lola Petticrew, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, and Tanzyn Crawford. Jeb Stuart is writing the show, with Johan Renck directing and Roberto Patino and David Wiener producing for Ubisoft Film & Television.

A performance update bringing 60 frames per second gameplay to Assassin’s Creed Unity is now available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
