Naomi Watts’ model daughter Kai Schreiber, 17, steals the spotlight from her famous mother at star-studded Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week –  nine months after nepo baby came out as transgender

Naomi Watts’ daughter, Kai Schreiber, turned heads at the Balenciaga fashion show in Paris on Saturday, becoming the center of attention rather than her well-known mother.

The 17-year-old model, who has quickly become a sensation in the fashion world since coming out as transgender last year, looked stylish in a black outfit as she posed with her mother, 57, before the show.

Kai completed her outfit with a Balenciaga belt and a black clutch, and chose a smoky eyeshadow look for the event.

Meanwhile, Naomi opted to match her daughter in an all-black ensemble of her own.

The actress looked stunning in a black outfit – a strapless top with a unique curved neckline and black trousers – while posing for pictures with Kai.

She finished her outfit with a pair of heels to make herself look taller and carried a small black clutch for her belongings.

The star appeared in great spirits as she beamed at her daughter while arriving at the show.

Last June, Kai publicly shared her experiences with questioning her gender identity since childhood and the process of coming out.

In a recent interview with Interview Magazine, the up-and-coming actress shared that she’d always dreamed of becoming a beautiful, glamorous, and powerful woman, citing Marilyn Monroe as a role model.

As someone who’s spent years observing trends and offering lifestyle advice, I’ve always believed in the power of representation. I was so moved seeing stars like Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, and Colin Jones – they truly inspired me when I was younger and figuring things out as a trans girl. It meant the world to have those role models during a really challenging time for our community, and I know they’ve impacted so many others too.

Kai shared with the magazine that they deeply admire trailblazing transgender individuals, particularly those in fashion. They celebrated the growing and powerful community of transgender people within the fashion industry, playfully describing it as a complete ‘takeover’.

The young actress shared that she had a major creative moment while working with Valentino earlier this year.

‘That job made me realize, “OK, this is what I want to do. I want to be a supermodel.” Period.’

Kai shared with the publication how she’s been working to improve her skills as a runway model.

Kai laughed, saying, ‘I’ve been practicing walking routines in the kitchen for years, and my mom has all the proof – she’s got tons of videos I made her film!’

During a recent interview, Kai described her style as ‘basic, but chic,’ playfully acknowledging her preference for classic looks.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m a huge believer in the power of personal style! Honestly, my go-to is a simple combo – low-rise jeans and a black cardigan. But it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it. When you express yourself through your clothes, it instantly makes you more interesting and approachable. Think about it: if everyone looked the same, fashion wouldn’t exist! It’s that individuality that really captivates people and sparks connection.

In May, her father praised his daughter for coming out as transgender.

Liev explained to Variety that Kai has always been true to herself, but a particularly meaningful moment was when Kai asked everyone to start using different pronouns for her.

Honestly, it wasn’t a surprise to me, as Kai has expressed a traditionally feminine side for a while now.

Liev praised the teenager’s courage and resilience, saying Kai is a true fighter. He emphasized the importance of Kai confidently and defiantly expressing her identity, essentially saying, ‘I am trans, here I am, and I won’t be intimidated.’

As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about family dynamics, I’ve been reflecting on Liev Schreiber’s recent comments to parents of transgender children. His advice, while simple, really resonated with me: he says, and I wholeheartedly agree, that you don’t necessarily have the answer for your child, and that’s okay. It’s about being present and supportive, not having all the answers right away. Each child’s journey is unique, and pretending otherwise isn’t helpful. It’s a powerful reminder that love and acceptance are the most important things you can offer.

Honestly, I just don’t get it! He said it felt like he was going too far, like he shouldn’t have even tried to do it because every situation is so different and complicated. It’s like he’s afraid to mess things up, and it’s killing me because I know he could have nailed it!

As someone who’s spent years observing family dynamics, let me tell you, raising teenagers is tough, period. I was recently chatting with an actor who really hit the nail on the head – they said if you’re struggling with a teen, especially a transgender teen, remember that all teenagers are challenging. It’s just a naturally difficult phase, and it’s okay to acknowledge that! They put it pretty bluntly – teenagers are a handful, and that’s normal.

Whether someone is transgender or not doesn’t change the fact that they’ll get through this. And a transgender teenager is still just a teenager, with all the usual experiences that come with it.

The reality TV star explained that their partner can be really difficult and frustrating a lot of the time, and Kai is known for being strong-willed and saying exactly what’s on their mind.

In addition to Kai, Liev and Naomi, who split in 2016, share a 17-year-old son, named Sasha.
