Hayden Panettiere has once again gotten people talking after showing off a new hairstyle.
I was so surprised a few months ago when I saw that Kelsea Ballerini, who’s always been so open about what she’s going through, completely changed her look! She ditched her usual blonde hair for this amazing, bright red – it was such a bold move, and I loved it!
Neve Campbell is famous for her blonde hair, seen in movies like ‘Heroes’ and the ‘Scream’ series, so her recent new hairstyle is a significant change from what fans are used to.
Hayden recently showed off a new, lighter hairstyle on Instagram, suggesting she was ready for a change.
The actress looked stunning, smiling brightly from the salon chair as her stylist showed off her beautiful, long, golden hair.
She shared a photo and wrote, ‘Having fun, laughing, and loving my hair thanks to the amazing @erickohair!’ Fans were clearly impressed with her new look.
Someone else commented on how much they loved seeing the happy reaction, and another person simply called the subject a ‘golden-haired angel.’
Hayden has openly and honestly discussed her experience with hair loss, explaining that it happened when she was struggling with substance abuse.
In a 2023 interview with Women’s Health, the actress shared what led her to stop drinking in 2021.
She described how much she suffered from lack of sleep, explaining that sleep is crucial for everything – from physical coordination and clear thinking to overall well-being.
She explained that her body signaled it had reached its limit around the time she turned thirty. She experienced swelling, jaundice – indicated by yellowing of her eyes – and had to see a liver specialist. She also noticed unexplained weight gain.
‘My hair was thin and coming out in clumps.’
In 2024, people became worried about Hayden’s health after noticing she seemed to be speaking with difficulty in interviews.
The actress previously struggled with opioid and substance abuse, but she’s been consistently in recovery since 2021.
In September 2024, she shared with People magazine the story of her younger brother Jansen’s unexpected death. He passed away in February 2023 at the age of 28 from an enlarged heart, a condition that wasn’t diagnosed before his death.
A worrying moment from the interview spread rapidly online, and people also commented on the conversation about her daughter, Kaya.
Many speculated Hayden was ‘not sober’ due to her slurred speech and exhausted appearance.
Shortly after the criticism began, Hayden responded on Instagram, explaining she felt compelled to address the situation on a platform where she wouldn’t be judged for her speaking pace.
She shared that a sick pet needed emergency surgery, which kept her awake for the two days leading up to the photoshoot.
The filming took eight hours, and then I did an on-camera interview that was scheduled for an hour. It started off well – in fact, the beginning of the interview wasn’t in the version People magazine published. I was completely worn out.
My representative ended the interview prematurely because I was losing energy, particularly as the conversation turned to more difficult topics.
Hayden requested a second interview, but was informed it wasn’t needed. The magazine explained they don’t review images or videos before publication; they only see the interview once it’s published.
The actress shared that everyone experiences grief in their own way. She also stated that her decision to take medication, or not, is a private matter between her and her physician.
She explained that the main problem isn’t just the specific incident, but the harmful environment created by social media and the way news often focuses on sensational headlines to get clicks.
As someone who’s spent years observing how people interact, I can’t stress enough how vital mental wellbeing is. And honestly, it breaks my heart to see how easily words typed online can really hurt someone. It’s so important to remember there’s a real person on the other side of that screen, and what you say can have a huge impact – often a negative one. Let’s all be a little kinder, okay?
Hayden finished by saying how thankful he was to everyone who supported him during the recent difficulties. He reiterated that he’s still learning and growing, just like everyone else.
However, she sparked worry once again as she sat down for a separate interview on Today.
During the interview, she discussed her movie, Amber Alert, and also opened up about her brother’s passing and her own mental health.
After her brother passed away, Hayden expected people to be understanding, but she was surprised by how deeply grief affected her both physically and emotionally. She hadn’t anticipated such a strong reaction from her body and mind.
‘It’s wild what stress and grief and all these hormones and running through your body can do…
She explained that stress can really take a toll on your body, even to the point of making you feel faint. Her own mother, she said, would get tension headaches when stressed – something her mother would likely be upset to hear her mention. Stress manifests differently for everyone, so there’s no reason to feel ashamed or be judged for how it affects you.
When asked about coping with her brother’s death, Panettiere said she wasn’t sure she had fully dealt with it, explaining that grief changes over time.
Hayden has been candid about her long struggle with substance abuse, in addition to her changing hairstyles and recent public events.
She recently shared that her difficulties started in her teens, when she was given medication on film sets to deal with the stress of being famous. These struggles continued into her adult life with alcohol and opioid use, especially after having her daughter in 2014 and experiencing postpartum depression.
After several times seeking treatment for substance use, starting in 2015 and most recently in 2021, Hayden is now committed to staying sober. He says it’s a daily commitment that needs constant effort.
She now believes these experiences helped her gain a new perspective and appreciate what she has, and she’s still dedicated to getting better.
Her new memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning releases May 12th.
