It should also be available to watch online through Channel 4’s streaming service after it airs.
The movie is based on a 2012 novel and tells the story of a man who finds out his friend is seriously ill with cancer. He promises to walk 500 miles to see her, encouraging her to stay strong until he arrives.
Hettie Macdonald directed this, and she’s known for her work on popular shows like Doctor Who – she directed the fan-favorite episode ‘Blink’ – and Normal People.

Metro described Harold Fry as overly sentimental and a bit cheesy, noting some of the dialogue was very direct. However, they also said it had a charmingly English quality – like a bittersweet and quirky treat reminiscent of a traditional English dessert.

I went into this movie expecting something pretty low-key, and it definitely started that way. But honestly, it really snuck up on me. What began as a simple story turned into a really powerful look at dealing with loss, feeling guilty, and finally finding a way to move on. It really hit me hard, in a good way.
The Telegraph commended the work for its honest portrayal of contemporary Britain, including its flaws, instead of presenting an idealized or overly optimistic view.
