Marvel Reveals New Professor Hulk Design Ahead of Mark Ruffalo’s MCU Return

Mark Ruffalo’s version of Hulk is getting a new look before he appears in future Marvel movies. We last saw Ruffalo as Hulk – also known as Bruce Banner – in the 2022 series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he was in his intelligent “Smart Hulk” form, first achieved in Avengers: Endgame. As Hulk prepares for a prominent role in this year’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel has released new merchandise showcasing the updated design of the character.

Hasbro recently unveiled a new Marvel Legends figure of Professor Hulk at Toy Fair 2026. The collectible statue depicts Professor Hulk in his classic green form, sporting red cargo pants and a black tank top.

As a huge Hulk fan, I was really intrigued by this Professor Hulk figure! Hasbro describes him as a darker, almost twisted version of himself – like a reflection of everything Bruce Banner’s been through. They say he’s not just strong, but actually combines Banner’s intelligence with the Hulk’s power, creating a totally new and formidable form. It’s a fascinating take on the character!

The latest version of the Hulk features interchangeable heads – one representing his enraged, classic Hulk form, and another showcasing his more intelligent, calm persona.

This figure includes seven accessories, such as alternate hands for Hulk, a blaster, glasses, and even a pair of pink bunny slippers.

Professor Hulk represents the best of both Bruce Banner and the Hulk. He lets Banner stay in control while enjoying the Hulk’s incredible strength and size. Importantly, Professor Hulk keeps Banner’s intelligence and personality, allowing him to live a relatively normal life even when transformed.

The latest Professor Hulk Marvel Legends action figure is modeled after his appearance in The Incredible Hulk #390, the comic issue where he famously receives his signature slippers.

Previously, Hulk wore a maroon shirt with a deep V-neck, as seen in The Incredible Hulk #382.

In Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans finally saw Professor Hulk appear on screen. After Thanos’ snap, Bruce Banner dedicated his time to finding a way to control his Hulk alter ego.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Smart Hulk usually prefers wearing everyday clothes instead of the fighting attire his comic book version is known for.

The on-screen version does share a similarity with the figure, as both versions wear glasses.

At Toy Fair 2026, Hasbro revealed its six-inch scale Professor Hulk action figure, showcasing its design and included accessories.

The figure will be released just before the new Spider-Man movie, which is expected to feature Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

Professor Hulk’s Future Form in the MCU

The new Marvel Legends Professor Hulk figure might hint at a compelling future storyline for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Currently, Bruce Banner has mastered his “Smart Hulk” persona – first seen in Avengers: Endgame – and has been using it to mentor his cousin, Jennifer Walters, about controlling her own Hulk powers.

Rumors indicate Mark Ruffalo will be back for Spider-Man 4, and it sounds like his character, Bruce Banner, might transform back into his original, unrestrained Hulk form during the movie.

Companies that make toys and merchandise, such as Hasbro and Bioworld, usually find out about a studio or franchise’s plans for their characters well in advance. This allows them time to design and produce products that are ready to launch alongside new releases. While Hasbro’s Professor Hulk figure isn’t officially connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe version, its release timing near the character’s next appearance is quite convenient.

The new Hulk figure from Hasbro can change between Bruce Banner (Professor Hulk) and his savage form, and this might foreshadow what happens to Mark Ruffalo’s character in future Marvel movies. Usually, Banner turns back into human form when Hulk isn’t in control. However, because of his experiments in Endgame, he might now transform into his Smart Hulk persona when he calms down instead.
