New look at Lesley Manville’s unexpected role in “exhilarating” sci-fi with Stranger Things star

Lesley Manville’s exciting new film, Cold Storage, will be released in UK cinemas next month. Early photos suggest it’s going to be a thrilling experience for audiences.

A dangerous, fast-evolving microbe is locked away in a top-secret military base to save the world from destruction. Years later, the base is sold and turned into a self-storage facility, allowing the organism to break free. Now, a surprising group of people must step up to prevent a global catastrophe.

According to the story’s description, two new employees and a seasoned expert in biological warfare have to make it through a chaotic night shift to prevent the complete destruction of humankind as a dangerous microorganism rapidly spreads.

The film features Liam Neeson as Robert Quinn, an expert who once worked to stop the spread of a dangerous fungus.

Georgina Campbell, known for her role in Barbarian, and Joe Keery from Stranger Things play a pair of unprepared security guards who suddenly find themselves facing a problem much bigger than they can handle.

Manville joins Sosie Bacon as Robert’s coworker (whose name hasn’t been revealed yet). One photo shows the three of them wearing hazmat suits while trying to figure out how the dangerous organism is spreading.

In a different shot, Neeson gently touches Manville’s shoulder, and both actors look frightened. This part is a departure for Manville, who is best known for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in the series The Crown.

The movie Cold Storage is based on David Koepp’s 2019 novel, which he also adapted into a screenplay. Jonny Campbell directed the film.

According to Koepp, “Cold Storage” is a fantastic movie – it’s frightening, humorous, exciting, unexpected, and a lot of fun to watch.

Campbell called the movie a truly entertaining experience, blending grand, sweeping scenes with incredibly intricate details. He was immediately captivated by David’s playful and clever voice, and the way the film mixed hilarious, outlandish humor with moments of profound insight.

Cold Storage arrives in UK cinemas on 20 February.
