Maya Jama shared some amazing advice she received from Rihanna, something she says she always remembers. She revealed this at the launch event for Club Poppi in London on Thursday.
The 31-year-old presenter, a longtime fan of the Grammy-winning singer, shared that she often feels anxious working in the entertainment industry, particularly at events with a lot of celebrities.
Okay, so Maya has been killing it lately – hosting Love Island, presenting at the BRITs… she’s been non-stop! But finally, finally, she just let loose and had some fun! I saw pictures, and honestly, she deserved that night off so much. It’s amazing to see her just relaxing and enjoying herself after working so hard.
I was at the party on Rivington Street, and she told the Daily Mail that she definitely feels the pressure to conform in this industry. But she shared that she always goes back to the advice Rihanna gave her, and it really helps her stay true to herself.
Maya said: ‘I always get so nervous [at events].
‘But Rihanna once told me to just pretend I know what I’m doing, and here I am. It works.’
Maya looked out of this world in a figure-hugging black leather midi dress at the party.
The ITV star elevated her frame in coordinated knee high boots as she struck a pose for cameras.
She was joined by the likes of rising star Skye Newman, model Leomie Anderson and singer Rose Gray.

This follows a TikTok video Maya posted on Tuesday night where she talked about being ‘naturally skinny’ while showing off her abs at the gym.
The Love Island host recently had a severe case of food poisoning while traveling, and believes she’s lost a significant amount of weight as a result.
Maya shared that she’s aiming for a more muscular physique and plans to achieve this through weightlifting and eating a bit later in the day to help her gain weight.
Maya expressed her frustration with the current trend of immediately assuming anyone who is thin must be using Ozempic, saying it feels like people automatically associate weight loss with the drug.
Some people are naturally thin and wish they had more curves. It can be difficult to gain weight, so it’s important to be understanding about that.
‘I know there’s no sympathy for the slimmers but… it’s a bit hard out here sometimes.’
She added that her advice for women trying to gain weight is to lift weights. She’s successfully gained weight in the past and plans to do so again.
I tend to eat pretty late, and honestly, I’m not sure it’s the best habit. It feels like the food just sits with me all night, so I’m curious to see if it makes a difference.
She captioned the post with: ‘Food poisoning in South Africa didn’t help lol.’
Maya recently shared with Women’s Health the three exercises that have most improved her strength and fitness.
She said: ‘Squats, push-ups and kickbacks with ankle weights.
Squats are fantastic for building strong glutes, and that’s essential. Push-ups are amazing for strengthening my core. I also really like kickbacks – they’re perfect for shaping and toning my muscles.
Maya works out with her trainer, Warren Whitely, and also includes regular reformer Pilates sessions at Nobu London in her fitness schedule.
