Tonight’s movie offers a realistic take on a post-apocalyptic world, focusing on a woman, played by Jodie Comer, and her fierce determination to keep her family safe during an environmental catastrophe. It’s a more down-to-earth survival story than many others you might have seen.
The film The End We Start From explores the harsh realities of climate change. Starring Jodie Comer, known for Killing Eve, the story follows a woman who unexpectedly gives birth alone at home while London is overwhelmed by severe flooding.
A woman and her family – her husband, R, and their son, Zeb – struggle to survive after massive flooding causes widespread panic and a desperate scramble for supplies.
If you didn’t get a chance to see the film when it was in theaters earlier this year, or if you’d like to watch it again, it’s on BBC One tonight at 11pm. After it airs, you’ll be able to stream it on iPlayer.
This movie is based on Megan Hunter’s 2017 novel of the same name. The screenplay was written by Alice Birch, and the film features Benedict Cumberbatch as another survivor named AB. Nina Sosanya and Mark Strong play the parents of the main character, and Katherine Waterston portrays O, a woman the protagonist meets while they’re both sheltering. Phillipa Peak, Theo Barklem-Biggs, Ansu Kabia, Gina McKee, and Alexandria Riley also appear in the cast.
