Jessie Ware’s new music video features actor James Norton as her romantic interest, portraying a ‘sexy cowboy’ in a steamy, BDSM-inspired scene.
The 41-year-old singer is preparing to release her sixth studio album, Superbloom, next month. She’s also just released a new single called ‘Ride’.
This song has a disco feel and uses a sample from the famous theme tune of the 1966 film, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, which was written by Ennio Morricone.
The music video, filmed in black and white, complements the song with a stylized Western theme and a distinctly sensual feel.
The video features explicit scenes of Jessie taking the lead over James, 40, both dressed in cowboy attire.
The singer alluded to the themes of Fifty Shades of Grey by playfully putting her fingers in her co-star’s mouth and briefly blindfolding him with rope.
In a playful nod to the song’s title, Jessie is shown riding on James’ back while he’s on his hands and knees. She looks straight into the camera as she sings the lyrics: ‘I need a stallion who can go all night, someone to come and blow my mind.’
He sometimes crawls towards her on his hands and knees, and in one scene, she playfully puts her toes in his mouth.
The video, directed by Thomas James, features the actor from House Of Guinness playfully portraying a sexy cowboy on horseback. Throughout the video, Jessie J repeatedly sings the catchy phrase, ‘Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up’.
Fans will be especially excited to see footage of James with his shirt off, wearing just a cowboy hat and chaps.
The video is visually impressive, and the connection between the two lead actors is undeniable. It features intimate moments, like Jessie playfully biting James’ ear and riding on his back, hinting at a passionate and dramatic storyline – previously described as a blend of ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
The podcaster shared how she convinced the actor, known for his work with Guinness, to play the part of the attractive cowboy. She explained she’d first suggested the idea to him while they were both attending a friend’s performance.
She remembered asking James, a friend she’d seen at their friend Jack Peñate’s show (which she’d encouraged him to attend), if he rode horses and would be willing to play a cowboy in her video.
‘I sent him the song, he loved it, and I’m so grateful that he made this happen,’ she went on.
She explained that she hadn’t expected to participate so much in the video’s production. However, James was a true professional and a kind person, which made the whole process very smooth.
Jessie jokingly recalled a very cold day in February when she found herself playfully ‘licking the ear’ of a horse on set. She praised the film’s beautiful look, attributing it to the use of film and the talent of director Thomas and their equine co-star, Caravan.
James said he couldn’t resist the chance to be in the video, and he really enjoyed the experience, calling it a lot of fun.
I immediately agreed to be in Jessie’s music video – I couldn’t think of any reason not to, he explained.
‘Ride’ is a fantastic song, and as someone who’s enjoyed Jessie’s music for years – and now considers her a friend – I was excited to be involved. Jessie, Thomas, and everyone else on the team made the whole experience really enjoyable.
The music video allowed James to playfully recreate scenes reminiscent of Fifty Shades, a nod to the fact he hadn’t been cast as Christian Grey in the films despite previously wanting the part.
Jamie Dornan, an Irish actor, became famous after playing the leading role of a wealthy, dominant character in the film named after him.
The film, which generated a lot of buzz and included explicit sexual content between the actor from ‘The Fall’ and Dakota Johnson, who played his lover, came out in 2015.
I remember when James first auditioned – he was pretty much a nobody then! But then Happy Valley’s first series came out last year, and suddenly he was a star. It was incredible to watch his career take off like that.
He remembered the director asking him to be more charismatic during his audition for Fifty Shades.
Oh my gosh, he actually said it was the hardest thing to even attempt! And can you believe he admitted he was too young and way too self-conscious to even understand what she meant? It’s just… everything! I knew he felt it, and now it’s confirmed! I’m practically levitating!
The movie adaptation of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades, a novel that became famous for its exploration of BDSM themes when it came out in 2011, was a huge commercial success even though critics didn’t like it.
It grossed £25.2million in ten days and became the UK’s biggest 18 certificate film ever.
