“Perfect” action-comedy with Hannah Waddingham gets new UK streaming home

Netflix has added a thrilling new action movie, The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Hannah Waddingham. Released this year, the film centers around Colt Seavers (Gosling), a former stuntman who’s called back into action when the lead actor in a major film—directed by his ex-girlfriend (Emily Blunt)—vanishes unexpectedly.

When the crew becomes the prime suspect, Colt begins his investigation and quickly discovers a much larger conspiracy than he anticipated.

The movie, directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce, is inspired by the popular 1980s television show of the same title.

Critics generally loved The Fall Guy, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it an 82% fresh rating. Even Digital Spy gave it a positive 3-star review.

According to TIME magazine, genuine connection and likability are rare in modern films, but Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are exceptions, bringing those qualities to the screen.

I just read a review in the Chicago-Sun Times that pretty much sums up how I feel about this movie! They said that with stunts that will leave you speechless and the amazing connection between Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, it doesn’t even matter if the story is a little shaky. Honestly, I think they’re right – those two together are magic, and the action looks incredible!

According to ABC News, the movie The Fall Guy is a strong contender for prompting the Academy Awards to create a new category recognizing stunt work. They praised the film, particularly Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s chemistry, calling it a highly entertaining tribute to the often-overlooked stunt performers who make action movies possible.

Entertainment Weekly called The Fall Guy “unabashedly fun” and praised its clever, layered structure, noting that it’s a well-made, classic movie experience.”

You know, reading The Seattle Times‘ review really hit the nail on the head. They said it had something you don’t see much in these big-budget movies – it was actually fun to watch! And honestly, I totally agree.

Ryan Gosling confessed to Digital Spy that he got overly emotional while filming a scene where his character sings a Taylor Swift song, admitting he cried “a little too hard.”

The actor described the experience as incredibly moving and emotionally releasing, admitting they might have gotten carried away with their tears. They recalled Emily Blunt gently advising them to dial back the intensity, suggesting they weren’t meant to be that vulnerable.

This movie is amazing! It’s so over-the-top – a character can survive a huge car crash and being set on fire, then just casually hang out and listen to Taylor Swift. It’s wild!

As a fan, what really grabbed me about this movie was the depth of the characters. They weren’t just one-note action heroes; there were so many layers and complexities that you just don’t often see in this genre. It made it incredibly exciting and honestly, a lot of fun to watch!
