A Court Of Thorns And Roses Author Confirms Hulu Show’s Fate After Reported Cancellation

Sarah J. Maas, hugely popular for her romantic fantasy novels, has some exciting news for fans of her A Court of Thorns and Roses series – she’s planning a return, but it won’t be with a brand new novel in the main storyline.

Originally released in 2015, this book series quickly became incredibly popular, selling over 13 million copies and making Sarah J. Maas a major name in the romance and fantasy genres. The first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses, is inspired by the story of Beauty and the Beast. It follows Feyre Archeron, who finds herself in the magical land of Prythian after accidentally killing a faerie. As she develops complicated feelings, she’s drawn into a fight against an ancient evil that threatens the entire realm.

Author Sarah J. Maas announced on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that she’s planning to write two additional books in her popular “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series. She also discussed the canceled Hulu adaptation of the books, which many fans were upset about. While the show was reportedly canceled this year, Maas emphasized that she’s determined to see a faithful adaptation of her stories brought to life.

I now own the full rights to all my work. Reclaiming those rights has been a significant process for me over the past few years, and I may share more details about it later. For now, though, I’m concentrating on writing books – it’s been a while since I’ve released something new, so that’s my priority.

I never want to be told to change my work just to attract a specific group of people. That’s not how I approach creating art or telling stories. When I work on something, it will genuinely be my vision, and I’ll put my full effort into making it the best it can be. I’ll be involved in every aspect of the design, but especially the sound, because music is so important to my work. In fact, the music will be a major undertaking in itself.

Sarah J. Maas has written several popular series, including Crescent City and Throne of Glass. There have even been connections between Crescent City and her A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series. Maas recently announced that books six and seven of the ACOTAR series will be released on October 27, 2026, and January 12, 2027, respectively. She didn’t share any details about the new books, hinting that events from Crescent City could significantly impact the story.

Now that Hulu has cancelled its plans, another major streaming service will likely pick up the project. While the high cost of adapting the novel was a factor in Hulu’s decision, disagreements about the creative direction also contributed to them abandoning it.

I’m so excited because Maas has promised to deliver exactly what we, as fans, have been hoping for! It feels like it won’t be long now before we finally get a faithful and loving adaptation of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series – it’s a dream come true!
