Lily Allen found out she wasn’t nominated for a BRIT Award so close to the announcement that Miquita Oliver was already at her house, prepared to watch her children.
As a lifestyle expert, I have to say everyone was surprised when the singer, who’s 40, didn’t appear at the awards ceremony in Manchester this weekend, especially since she was up for three awards! It definitely raised some eyebrows.
Lily was surprisingly left out of all the award nominations, and decided not to attend the ceremony just hours before it started.
On the latest episode of her podcast, Miss Me?, Miquita shared that she was watching Lily’s daughters, Ethel and Marnie, believing Lily was traveling to Manchester for an awards show.
Apparently, Lily was supposed to be the one going out, which is why I was watching Ethel and Marnie at the Mills’ place. Phoebe ended up coming, and we were all having a cozy little sleepover under the blankets when, out of nowhere, Lily just walked in.
I was surprised she wasn’t at the BRIT Awards, and asked why she wasn’t traveling to Manchester for it. But she decided against going, so we all ended up watching the show together in bed.
Actually, it’s probably for the best she didn’t win. It would have felt a little strange if she’d accepted Album of the Year while we were just relaxing on the couch, all cozy under a blanket.
They then talked about Lily not winning any of the three awards she’d been up for, but Miquita explained that wasn’t the reason she skipped the event.
Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan felt she deserved to win, and Miquita agreed, believing she should have been named Album of the Year. Miquita explained that industry insiders likely wanted Olivia Dean to win all the awards, as is common practice.
Jordan added, “I really don’t get the criticism. It seems ridiculous to me. Olivia deserved Album of the Year, and she would have been perfectly content with winning three awards. That would have been enough for her.”
Miquita enthusiastically agreed, praising Olivia as a remarkably talented new artist and pointing out that she even won a Grammy award.
She later added: ‘With Lily we have to talk about an album reaching everyone.’
Jordan replied: ‘It’s a cultural reset. If it’s a cultural reset you give them the award.
It would have been amazing if Lily had gone on stage to accept the award. It challenges the typical lifespan of a pop star – that would have been really cool.
I’m frustrated that she could have helped Mark celebrate his performance in a fun way, and there were lots of possibilities for how she could have done that. It bothers me, but I’m not sure if that’s the reason Lily decided not to go.
Miquita confirmed: ‘I don’t think it’s that deep. She just didn’t go.’
Lily was scheduled to attend the glamorous event in Manchester on Saturday, but she reportedly canceled at the last minute because she caught a cold.
Lily Allen has decided to prioritize resting her voice before her West End Girl tour kicks off in Glasgow on Monday, according to The Sun.
She had previously shared with her Instagram followers that she wasn’t feeling well, but was working hard to get in shape for her first performance.
Even though Lily’s new album, West End Girl, was popular, Olivia Dean won the awards for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Act.
