Jamie Lee Curtis defends herself as she doubles down on claim that The Bear is ending

Jamie Lee Curtis isn’t backing down after speaking out about the future of The Bear.

The Academy Award-winning actor, 67, announced on Instagram on February 17th that the show will finish after its next, fifth season.

At the premiere of her new show, Scarpetta, on Tuesday night, Janina Gavankar (Curtis) was asked about the future of her popular FX on Hulu series. Despite no official word on whether the show would continue, she and her co-star Nicole Kidman discussed the possibility of a conclusion during an interview with Access Hollywood.

‘People think you were confirming the show is ending,’ the reporter said.

Curtis seemed frustrated, saying, “Everyone already knows the show is ending, so I don’t get why it’s such a surprise. Unless I hear from people who claim I announced something new, I think most understood this was the final season.”

She added, ‘If it isn’t, then I’ve completely blown it.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to FX for comment. 

The Bear follows Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, a highly skilled chef, as he returns to Chicago to run his family’s struggling Italian beef restaurant after his brother’s death.

Curtis first appeared in season two of The Bear as Donna, Carmy’s mother, and has become a regular character known for creating stressful situations.

On February 17th, Jamie Lee Curtis posted a cozy picture on Instagram with her co-star Abby Elliott, who plays her on-screen daughter Natalie.

Curtis celebrated wrapping up the show created by Chris Storer, expressing gratitude for the amazing cast and crew he worked with. He shared how much he enjoyed telling the story of the beloved family at the heart of the series, and finishing it all alongside his daughter, whom he affectionately calls his ‘Berzatto bear’.

Even though Curtis’s recent post could have simply been about her character leaving the show The Bear, many fans believed it meant the entire series would finish after its fifth season.

‘Are we on the final season omg,’ wrote one fan in the comments. 

Fans were questioning whether the show would return for another season, with one asking, “Is this the last season?” and another simply wondering if it had been confirmed.

The fourth season of The Bear launched in June 2025, and FX quickly renewed it for a fifth season the following month.

The announcement didn’t say if this would be the last season of the show, which is planned to launch on FX on Hulu later this year.

It’s not certain what Curtis meant when he said ‘everyone agrees the show is finishing,’ as it might be based on informal talks about its future. However, neither the other actors nor the show’s creators have publicly announced any plans to end it.

Neither the show’s creator, Chris Storer, nor the stars, Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy White, have suggested the show will be ending anytime soon.

The fourth season of The Bear ended with Carmy choosing to step away from the restaurant, leading some to believe the series might be coming to a close.
