The new season of Daredevil: Born Again will be the first in eight years to move away from the formula established by the original Netflix Defenders shows. The Defenders series on Netflix featured four heroes – Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist – who eventually teamed up in a live-action series in 2017. Before that team-up, Luke Cage was the only one to appear in another hero’s show (Jessica Jones) as a supporting character, and crossovers between the shows became less common after the Defenders event.
The upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again will break an eight-year pattern in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be the first live-action series to feature characters from the former Netflix ‘Defenders’ shows, with Krysten Ritter reprising her role as Jessica Jones on Disney+.

The most recent live-action team-up between Marvel’s Defenders happened in 2018 during Season 2 of Luke Cage. Iron Fist showed up in the tenth episode to help Luke fight crime in Harlem, with Finn Jones returning as Danny Rand.

Danny’s appearance was important because he helped Luke manage his anger, allowing Luke to refocus before his fight with Bushmaster.
Jessica Jones could appear in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and her part will likely be larger than Iron Fist’s brief appearance in the first season.
Sana Amanat, an executive producer, announced in December 2025 that Jessica Jones will be more involved in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. Her reasons for getting involved stem from deeply personal motivations.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again will start streaming on Disney+ on March 24th. Along with stars Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter, many of the original cast members will return, including Vincent D’Onofrio, Ayelet Zurer, and Wilson Bethel.
When Will Other Defenders Return to the MCU?
As a big Marvel fan, it totally makes sense we haven’t seen the Defenders team up with the wider MCU yet. Bringing those Netflix shows – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the rest – back into the fold is a huge undertaking, and it’s understandable it’s taking time to figure out how to make those crossovers happen naturally.
Even though fans waited a long time for news, the upcoming season two of Daredevil: Born Again will finally team up Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones, which is exciting because it could pave the way for the return of Luke Cage and Iron Fist in the future.
I’ve been following the news, and back in June 2022, Mike Colter – who played Luke Cage – said there’s a good chance we might see a reboot of the show sometime. He seemed really hopeful about it!
In May 2025, Colter hinted at a possible return as Luke Cage by sharing a photo of the New York City skyline while the second season of Daredevil: Born Again was being filmed. Adding to the speculation, Finn Jones was also confirmed to be in New York City at the same time, leading fans to believe both actors might make unexpected appearances in the new season.
It makes sense that these characters could return in Daredevil: Born Again. With Mayor Fisk declaring martial law in New York, they’d likely be forced to come out of hiding and team up with old allies to fight back.
